Well, this is the first time I'm showing my project on the forum. I posted up gelcoat questions a week or so ago because I'm ready to fully prep the hull for paint or gel. I finished sanding the sides and deck yesterday. Hosed it off and wish the gelcoat looked this good dry, too bad it's got to be redone. The bottom needs to be stripped and sanded soon, engine has got to come out so I can do the stringers, etc...
I cleaned up the swim platform, scrubbed and lightly sanded. Amazing how much crud and green stuff was pulled out of the wood. Had the brackets polished too. Looks great. Still lots to do, enjoy! Here are picture of what it looked like when I dragged it home. |

It's a 68 and I have no idea what "was" in it from the factory. It currently has a 318 that is not original to the boat. The engine is cobbled together, but runs. I'd like to get rid of it and source something with a little more punch...

You can see the areas where the original gel was ground off when painted the first time in these pics. Plus all the blistering below the waterline.
Sourced the original gauges that require restoration too. |

Two gallons of aquastrip = a lot less sanding

I am surprised the 318 doesn't have enough for you. Mine pushes my marauder hull along quite nicely. But hey they make bigger faster stronger so why not?

Just throwing this out there Chris. You could write Correct Craft and have Art Cozier look up your boat and find out what it had in it. then you might decide to keep the Chrysler conversion but change it over to a 360. Reid P will know what you need to do.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments. The thought of who I would need to contact in order to find out what this boat was outfitted with has crossed my mind. In general, I would love to have a copy of the build sheet. As far as the engine is concerned, I'm just looking for something that is a little bit more on the performance end, nothing radical though. I'll figure it out when I get there. I'm pretty sure this thing had a 318 in it originally. The old owner put this engine in. The velvet and bell housing are original. The engine color is orange and the trans and bell housing is blue. I'm just going to have fun and build it the way I want.
Cheers gang! |

I misspoke, the engine and trans is all orange... It has been a while since I've looked under the engine cover. All my work has been on the hull lately.

Where are you around Annapolis? My childhood best friend lives on the Severn so I spend a lot of time down there. The work you've done so far looks great. Keep us posted.

I'm up Whitehall Creek off of the Severn. Head straight out of my creek then turn slightly to the right and you will end up downtown Annapolis. Ego alley downtown is a fun place by boat.
I grew up here and found my way back after a few years of being between Savannah GA, Tampa Fl and a few places in between. |

I know where that is. My friend is way towards the back of the Severn in a section that is no-wake on the weekends and he was on the Magothy years ago. He has a Nautique and occasionally I'll take my boat down. Before kids we used to hit City Docks a lot but less so now. We don't venture out past the point at the Naval Academy unless its a very calm day. I always have a great time in Annapolis - you're lucky to live around there. Next time I'm down I will PM you. I see you're an architect so you must be ok!

Chris,
I have a super nice 340 block that has been completely gone over by a mopar race shop, nice intake, hot cam, etc. I have all the parts except the pistons to make a really nice motor with a bit more punch for you. The only thing in mediocre shape are the exhaust manifolds. PM me if you are remotely interested. I was going to put this into my 67SN project. Mike |

Hi Mike,
I am interested. However, I will need to unload the current engine I have in order to consider buying a new one, make some room... Mrs Cuda will not like any more boat parts in the basement. So, Ive got a running 318 that I would like to unload (pictured above). Needs some love but its all there. I spoke to a guy on the forum that is looking for a 318 long block, maybe I should reach out to him again. Plus I want the engine out so I can start the stringers. Sooner it goes away the better! |

Update,
All old paint is completely gone from the deck and sides. Rough sanding of decks and sides is finally done. Did the deck completely by hand. Nice clean slate to work with. I have found a lot of body filler all over this boat. Someone took a grinder to the deck and did an extremely sloppy job. I was able to sand out 90 percent of the gouge marks. This is where the rubber meets the road. Gel it or repaint, still cant decide... Received my SS center console last week as well as the fiberglass rear seat. Put them in the boat along with my fiberglass buckets to test fit. Need to yank the engine next. Fiberglass rear seat needs to be modified in the height department, otherwise it fits just great. A little massaging to make it look right. I like the clean look. PS. Someone way back when ground off a lot of the gel coat on the raised deck accents. I need to figure out how to reshape. A lot of the crisp lines have been lost due to the grindee's handy work. Gotta fix that too... Enjoy! |
