My manual says to pull the plugs and add a teaspoon of preservation oil then to turn the crankshafts. How necessary is that and what type of oil would I use? How about fogging the throat of the carb? And running all.the fuel out of the engine?

I use a pump oil can & give each cyl about 3 pumps of engine oil. Put the plugs back in & crank it a few revs w/ starter. Some just fog thru carb. Others do nothing at all.
As far as carb, I have had more trouble running carbs dry than just leaving them full. It is a good idea to get some sabilized gas in there though. |

On that note Im questioning if I need to go further with winterizing my boat...I have always brought it to the local boat shop, this year a guy on the lake and I did ours together. I did not fog the carb or put oil in the spark plugs....I have fogging oil should i just spray it in the carb?

I sprayed fogging oil in cylinders first time this year, but had a hard time turning motor...I should figure out how to go from battery directly to starter...It is already grounded, right. So just have to go from battery positive to starter, right? I heard if you use regular start key then you shoot gas in fuel injected engine and dilute the oil.
I was just thinking...wonder if i have a fuel pump relay that i could pull then use regular start method. |

Fog through the carb with the engine running until it dies. You'll be fine. I done it for 40 years.

If you want to crank without starting the boat just pull the coil wire completely off that way it doesn't arc to anything it shouldn't. I don't fog or use oil. Every month or so if I remember I will go crank it a revolution or two with the starter. Then again mine is stored in a climate controlled garage.
As Pete said fog down the carb alternate between the right and left primary holes untill it dies. Thats easier than pulling each plug then cranking it over. All my Seadoos had have a special hole in the air box the size of a red stick tube to fog the ski. |

You are taking a chance that you will get internal parts rusting. The fogging prevents that. |

Worst case if there was to much rust on cylinder walls you could break a ring. It's good measure but neither my boat or my dad's has been fogged in 10+ years.

NEVER assume ANYTHING done at a dealership. Why are you even taking it to them for basic work??? (winterizing)?? And, how much did they rape you for it?

I take that back it wasn't a dealer ship it was a boat maintenance shop in Otis, MA. He charged me $180, sometimes time vs. money its worth it. This year I did it myself because I changed lakes and was able to make time. But of course I want to make sure it is done right. thanks again
