Well gents, I believe so strongly in this campaign and that Obama needs to go, I went up to Wisconsin to work the phones at a Republican Victory center in Kenosha yesterday. Illinois is a lost cause as the unions and the Dems control it (and, we are in very bad financial shape here too).
However, there is a chance to save Wiscsonsin, and have Wisconsin help save the country too. So, I did what I could. LOTS of very favorable responses for Romney. People up there are energized and can't wait to vote for Romney. There were actually quite a few folks that came up from Illinois to pitch in. Funny though, when I would call the 608 area code (Madison), there did seem to be a few Obama voters. Madison is the belly of the liberal beast (think OnOneWheel and Jammin). |

Why, I am shocked....SHOCKED!!! Yes, I read this. If we thought his first term was bad, I don't think we have seen anything yet. I think we are really going to have to brace ourselves if he gets elected to a second term.....god forbid. |

You may be a little late on this. There are many people making calls on behalf of Romney. The people I know from the Romney campaign offices are explaining to seniors how Medicare and Social Security will be replaced with vouchers and reduced payments and telling women that it is better if the government decides what they can do with their bodies. I also did a bit of driving for people up there in Wisconsin who had no transportation to the polls for the early voting that started on the 22nd of last month. It is nice to have the time to perform this service to voters. The only people who are being reached with phone calls are old people who still have a land line, and are stupid enough to to answer a blocked or unknown phone call on it. Iran Contra - what a movie that could be.
Ollie gets caught. Only reports to W Casey. Casey only reports to Reagan. - Casey takes one for the team and dies on the operating table. Starring - Jack Nickelson as William Casey I'd go see it - but - it's only a movie. |

Why wait? There are several great books on it. Try one. I recommend "A Very Thin Line: The Iran-Contra Affairs". It is taken from court documents, depositions, and interviews with those who participated in the subversion of our constitution. |

If you are going to change your president on Tuesday, I hope you have already bought your tickets to a country where there is a different one. Remember, set your clock back one hour on Sunday, not 50 years on Tuesday. |

[QUOTE=john b] and telling women that it is better if the government decides what they can do with their bodies.
/QUOTE] In your spirit of stirring the pot john, if they are getting pregnant and having abortions, just maybe somebody should be??????? The government makes me wear a seat belt, and now buy health insurance. What is really the difference? |

Dave I'm slowly coming to love your analogies and metaphors for the humor they provide because they rarely make much logical sense. As I've said before I think that this is a symptom of you twisting logic to meet your pre-determined conclusions rather than letting logic guide you to a fresh conclusion. You, Mr. Freedom Himself, wants the government to get involved in somebody's decisions about their bodies!?! I would love to see you compare wearing a seat belt or having health insurance to pregnancy in a conversation with a woman. I don't think you'd make it very far. If you really don't believe in seat belts or Obamacare, and I am presuming that philosophically you must not based on all of your comments, then you should be supporting a women's right to choose since it is logically the same thing. If, on the other hand, you want the govt. to get involved in women's bodies then you might want to think about getting on board with Obamacare and seat belts. I don't see how you can just pick and choose philosophies, but then again I don't know how Romney gets away with it either. But I digress... |

Hansel, that was tongue in check stirring of the pot. I am always amazed that the party of "Choice" wants to tell me to wear my seat belt/helmet, where I can smoke, the MPG of my car, the type of light bulb I should use, the insurance I need to buy, which minorities I should hire, how much more I should pay in taxes. where I can pray and put a Christmas tree....... If I am not a women do I have a choice left to make? Well I am making one, Romney.

OK Dave, I'd like to quickly respond to some of the stuff your recent posts. Don't think of this as me arguing so much as providing what I believe are valid counterpoints. I will probably just let this all go for a bit after this post since I have some pressing matters to attend to and I fear we are all getting dangerously close to Mr. Churchill's definition of a fanatic ("Can't change his mind and won't change the subject"), and surely some of us are already passed that a long, long time ago (like, maybe on July 16, 2012 at 8:30am when "You didn build that !" first came into being).
I should have used more precise language and said that there is NO PROFIT (instead of "NO MONEY") in helping the poor. I stand by my differentiation of dividing the economy into a public (government), private (for-profit), and voluntary (non-profit) sectors. My point was that there is a role for both the public and voluntary sectors to do things that there are or should be no profit in. Cases in point including helping the poor (won't make a profit there) or rebuilding after a major hurricane (shouldn't be profit driven motives here either). You challenged me to leave the country in response to me telling you to leave the grid. One of the ironies of this is that I can find lots of working places that people want to live that are what you might consider socialist so I have some pretty good options. You, with your "contempt" for government actually have very few places to go and they are not very attractive. That should tell you something about the end results of your arguments. I don't get to count payroll TAXES as taxes now since they benefit me? Well then I guess I'm just going to write off all taxes since they go to support all kinds of things than benefit me like roads, schools, police, firemen, the military, etc... You are always saying the problem with taxes is that they don't let me use my money as I see fit. So how does a payroll tax not count by that definition? I'll counter your concern for taxation of the rich with a slight twist of your quote, "The POOR are paying taxes every time they turn around, there is no free lunch for them as you would have us believe."
Finally, I love this gem because it seems to sum up all of your arguments and illustrates why I and others find it hard to take you seriously (read "Confessions of a former Republican"). You want the world to go back to the way it was but that is just never going to happen. The challenge isn't to try to put the genie back into the bottle, it is to move forward with honest solutions to actual problems. Not fanciful and simplistic one liners that attack straw men. There is an important place for conservative principles, thinking, and philosophy in the world today. The problem is that instead of creating a legitimate dialogue with progressives, conservatism has chosen to bury its collective head in the sand, denying sweeping changes in society and the natural world. Demographic shifts in the American population? Nope, straight white men will rule forever. Global climate change? No problem with that hoax. Taxes supporting legitimate roles of government? Nah, who need's 'em. Technology fundamentally revolutionizing the now global economy? I want my old job back! The list is seemingly endless. I vote for Republicans and Democrats, whoever I believe has honest workable solutions to the problems we face. I'd like to see more Republicans, on this site and on the ballot, face up to reality and give the country real solutions to real problems. Not a bunch of conspiracy theories, fear-mongering (shout out to the bizarre "bullet" comment and some of the "civil war" predictions that followed), and wishful thinking that just wants the world to go back to the way it was in 1937, 1861, 1776, 1620, etc... |

And to touch on more of my comment of civil war in the streets. Think of it like this, it will come from the poor people you created this term. When the goverment does not have no more money to handout, guess what,"I want my check"!! Sorry, we BROKE!! So how will they react?? Most people will react in anger. Just like Greece has. People fighting in the streets etc. Vandlizing business etc. Bunch of horse ***************!

I am not driven by false fears and ignorance. I'll be moving forward with Obama. Not backward with Romney. |

For all of you with your head still in the sand believing you will someday get a piece of the pie, you will enjoy this. It is an excerpt from a Citigroup memo advising high value investors of the threats to their wealth. The whole report is here. It may not be for long because they continue to intimidate people who publish it.
Citigroup Plutonomy reports "We project that the plutonomies (the U.S., UK, and Canada) will likely see even more income inequality, disproportionately feeding off a further rise in the profit share in their economies, capitalist-friendly governments, more technology-driven productivity, and globalization… Since we think the plutonomy is here, is going to get stronger… It is a good time to switch out of stocks that sell to the masses and back to the plutonomy basket Low-end developed market labor might not have much economic power, but it does have equal voting power with the rich. There are signs around the world that society is unhappy with plutonomy – judging by how tight electoral races are. But as yet, there seems little political fight being born out on this battleground. A related threat comes from the backlash to “Robber-barron” economies. The population at large might still endorse the concept of plutonomy but feel they have lost out to unfair rules. In a sense, this backlash has been epitomized by the media coverage and actual prosecution of high-profile ex-CEOs who presided over financial misappropriation. This “backlash” seems to be something that comes with bull markets and their subsequent collapse. To this end, the cleaning up of business practice, by high-profile champions of fair play, might actually prolong plutonomy". On another note: If you are still in denial as to how important energy independence is to our country, take a look at what is happening in the hurricane zone when people can't get their oil. Most of you are too young to remember the oil embargo of 1973, but I remember it well. Gasoline rationing, gas lines blocks long, and the inability to drive anywhere more than one tank away because you could not get gas unless it was on your even or odd day, and that was only if you could find a station. I had to join a gas station "club" to fill up. Membership was $40.00 per week as I recall (real money in 1973), and that was just so you could fill up at your "club". Non members were not served since it was a private "club" of motorists . In a global conflict you can count on not having any oil for your car, boat or to heat your house.. |
