How does your imaginary friend (your god) feel about your love of killing people? I missed the part in the gnarley book about "thou shall not kill, unless someone engages in a behavior that you don't like".
OK, so you have now stated that you do believe in killingpeople as long as they don't agree with you, or they do something that pisses you off, or your president erroneously says they possess something you don't want them to have (Iraq WMD), or if someone comes to your door to take your guns away...........
States have convicted the wrong person many times, and have executed a number of them.
You have some very strange opinions.

You say you are Christian, but reject "Christian values" when they are in conflict with your opinions.

You say you respect unborn life, but you want to kill those who do bad things.

You say entitlements are bad and a waste of tax dollars, but they are your only form of support, both medically and financially, and you don't pay taxes.

You say others are scamming the system by having a car you don't approve of while they are receiving government benefits, yet you are saving for a ski boat while I am paying your bills. I can only assume you also have a vehicle to tow it or you would be saving for that as well.

You say that a cell phone is an un- necessary luxury for someone collecting benefits, yet you communicate freely with a computer, internet access, and most likely, phone service.

You thank your god for providing you with the strength and the miracle of being on the road to recovery from your illness, but you fail to acknowledge that if he existed and cared about people he would not have allowed you and millions of others to suffer.

You drive a car while receiving benefits, yet you chastise others for doing the same.

This last one is just a long shot, but I would put odds on you spending some of my tax dollars on the Romney campaign.

You are a hypocrite on a magnitude of unimaginable proportions. It is a trait I commonly see in people who profess to have religious convictions.

Why do states convict the wrong person many times? Shoddy police work or intentional framing?

Police and states don't convict anyone, juries do. If you want answers, pick up a book on the subject and read it. You may learn something.

Your words not mine. It's the jury's fault if they wrongly convict someone based on the evidence the police and State present?

ABSOLUTELY! The jury has the duty and responsibility of weighing the evidence presented by the prosecution against the evidence presented by the defense and rendering a verdict.
As far as this discussion is concerned, who cares shed the fault lies, the objective is not to convict an innocent man, but even more so, not to murder one.

On your way to the polls and in dealing with the results (whenever we get them, lots of absentees and provisionals to count this time around) consider the words conservative columnist Michael Smerconish and try to stay based in reality.

President Obama hasn't been treated any differently by the right than President Bush was treated by the left and regardless of who wins the election, attacks from the losing side will continue and so will the uncooperating nature of the House and Senate. That is the reality.

That is a truly ignorant statement. I am surprised it came from you.
It really doesn't matter to me, or any of us who will serve you without bias regardless of your views. With that statement you have also entered camp hypocrite. You profess to be a citizen who respects and cares about the country. You say the pledge of allegiance, sing the star spangled banner, take off your hat at the passing of an American flag, and probably have a flag somewhere, most likely a cheesy sticker on you bumper. Yet you reject what this country stands for, the rule of law, and any respect for the constitutional authority given those who hand you your "freedom" on a sterling silver platter. Six police officers I have worked with have been shot on the job, and I am now a "disabled police officer"due to an attempted arrest that didn't go according to plan. We dedicated our lives to protect the constitution and enforce the rule of law in our country, and asked for nothing more than a paycheck every two weeks.
There are really only two choices when it comes to your country.
You can be a respect the constitution and the laws enacted by the people that govern conduct and protect life and property. OR
You can tear the country apart by refusing to accept the principles of law and the respect for those who take an oath dedicate their life to preserving it, regardless of their personal views and opinions. I presume you are teaching your children the same lack of respect for you country, constitution, and laws as you displayed by your statement.

You're so FOS it's not funny. In one post you claim states wrongfully convict people and then in the next you say they don't and blame it on the jury for not seeing in through the evidence, when you known most people trust the police and trust the evidence they put forth. Are you going to say that you or fellow police officers you know never misled or outright lied on the stand to get a conviction?

It's not limp wrested, or a bad question, just a diplomatic way of stating it.
The answer is NEVER!
What incentive is there to do that? With every arrest you put not only your reputation, but all of your tangible assets, your house, your savings, and the future of your family on the line.
People wrongly arrested or charged can sue the officers involved, and they frequently try. Even if you prevail, you can be stuck with huge legal fees defending yourself that very possibly bankrupt your family.
I have testified many times for the defense because of an exculpatory statement made by a defendant that I included in my report. In May of this year, 5 years after my retirement, I had to testify in Portland in a death penalty hearing for Brian Bement. (He planned on killing me and robbing me of the buy money during a drug deal in Illinois back in about 96. you can Google it if you are interested) . I believe my testimony played an important role in him receiving life in prison instead of the death penalty for his murder of a homeopathic Dr. when he robbed him of the drug buy money (sounds familiar, doesn't it). In case you aren't aware, police are required to include exculpatory statements in their reports, and to note discrepancies in witness statements and evidence. Police are paid by the hour, not by the conviction.

Riley,
I have never lied on the stand and personally know of no officer that has. I am sure it has happened, but I can't explain why.
I never said people aren't wrongly convicted I just pointed out that only the jury, not the police, prosecutor, defense, judge (in the case of a jury trial) or an expert witness convict people. A JURY CONVICTS PEOPLE.
Reports reflect witness statements, and you rely on these statements within reason. When the prosecutor says "in your report the witness said.......... If it does you say so. If you have reservations, you say so. If you have learned new information, you write a supplementary report reflecting new information.
Wow, some of you really do hate your country.

Not trusting the police equates to hating your country? I don't think so. You can respect the polce as well as people in general, but that doesn't mean you should or have to trust them.

You can do whatever you like, trust them or not. It's your choice.
I believe that when you don't have the training, knowledge, or capacity to deal with something your god has thrown at you, a kidnapped, injured or missing child, a robbery, a theft, a burglary, a threat, an argument with a family member, a drug dealer in your neighborhood, or wanting a reassuring face and a hand to hold while you bleed out after a car wreck, being shot, or stabbed, you will trust the police to solve your problems. No one else will.

It is almost a certainty that if someone asks you a question and offers you two answers to choose between the question cannot be answered meaningfully.
OMH, are you still molesting your children and beating your wife? That is just an example of course.
Generally, the police I know trust no one personally. As the President of the United States we trust and respect the office he holds, just like I trust and respect the police. There is not one officer I know who would not give his or her life to protect the President or any other elected office holder, regardless of their personal opinions. Police respect the office and the institution it stands for. It is irrelevant who hold that office. The office IS the United States of America and I take my oath seriously.

Sorry to those of you who legitimately believe and practice your beliefs. I believe it shouldn't matter what I think, these points are only for discussion.
I thought some of you Christians might agree with me about those who profess to be a good Christians, but then set a bad example. In my opinion real Christians should distance themselves from people who claim to protect babies while murdering doctors, bombing clinics, belittling my beliefs and trying to impose yours on me and my family in the name of their faith. It would be a sad day when people are not allowed to practice their faith. That goes for ALL faiths though, not just Christianity.

John,
What kind of responses do you expect when you call MY BOOK, The Bible a gnarley book or a comic? That, my friend,(btw, right now the word" friend" is purely my Christian realtionship with you) is taken offensively by me and obviously others here as well.

I had started going thru some various Bible passages to respond to your earlier post to skicat, but whats the use? At this point, you dont want to beleive.

You tuely can not see the difference between killing a baby via abortion and condeming a man on death row? (btw, do a search for how an abortion is done, esp. late term, if you dont know...I'm pretty sure you already do tho)

As Christians, we almost always get thrown into that "hate monger" and "hypocrite" basket when we don't go along with the world on some of the moral issues of today.

If someone is really sick and needs help I am all for them getting it. But there are many "blood sucking" the system in perfect health when they could work.

No, I am not throwing you in that basket. If I thought you were a murderer or hate monger I would not waste the time to talk to you. I am sorry for offending those I did, but I gained a much better understanding of how some of you feel about religion by doing so. I hesitate to call most of you friends, because I suspect you don't see me that way. I will say I view each of you as respected acquaintances though.
I will get past this subject, but I'm glad it was discussed. If anything positive came of this thread, it was to show that we have many common interests but different ideas. I would still help any of you with a task if I thought I could.

Our president today said "voting is the best revenge". Revenge against who? What kind of a president advocates some of his citizens getting revenge on others??? The most divisive one ever I guess!!! Tomorrow can not get here fast enough.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Not saying who I agree with here (though certainly some of you come to your own conclusions), but I would just like a make a short philosophical defense of John.

John makes fun of religion, and that pisses people off. However he holds no allegiance to it.

Other people then make fun of police, or some form of the law. Presumably we all hold some allegiance or respect for those.

That makes it a little different it seems to me.

It is generally a good idea to forget trying to win people over with Bible verses or any religious precepts for that matter (unless perhaps the person that you are trying to convince believes in the shared authority of the teachings). It doesn't work, if anything it drives people away.

Remember this, "You may be the only Bible some people ever read."
