Things happen for a reason. Why you where on call. Just think you could have been working in the woodshead, instead of working. Somebody is looking out for you. Good luck and hope everything gets back to normal. Be Well!

Jeff,
It's always sad to hear about bad news. Just keep going and replace the boiler. This, however gives you the opportunity to go with something with greater efficiency. I can not say enough for the Triangle Tube boiler I installed in my shop I build up north. My gas bills are coming in at an average of $50 per month through the heating season keeping the temp set at 50. When I'm up there for Christmas and New Years, I'll kick it up to 68 for the roughly 10 days. It's also heating my domestic hot water. BTW, I thinks you need a better electrician!! It sounds like a hack job to me! You didn't wire it yourself did you? |

Jeff, so sorry to hear about this, at least it is not your main house, or the new barn. The property seems to be jinxed with fire incidences, glad no one was injured. SH

why assume its a hack job? I have seen more taco 007 circs short out inside their covers through the yrs. also ice cubes on argo and taco controls. those wood fired systems have all that stuff plus other misc controls and wires all packed into a small covered space its no wonder there arent more fires . sorry to hear about it Jeff .

If the NEC is not followed and there isn't any MOP. then yes it's a "hack job". |

+1 No kidding!! Guy's house practicaly burns down and he has no heat during the first really nasty cold spell this year. I am guessing the last thing he is interested in is criticisms and lectures. Sorry about what happened Jeff, hope you are back up and running quickly. |

Sad to hear Jeff, I hope you get back up and running soon. On the bright side at least it did not get the boat barn.

Larry and Jack, Yes, the word "hack" may have been harsh but it was intentional. This is Jeff's second fire. Most fires are ether caused by bad electrics or bad wood burning installs although I do not believe Jeff's first fire was ever confirmed to be from electrics. I have seen way too many bad electrics done by so called pros and or homeowners. 18 ga. lamp cord (SPT-1) running through a wall with a 20 amp load on it is a great example. In rural areas where there aren't electrical inspections seem to be the worst. The NEC has been written from many years of experience and is meant to protect. It's sad that the "hackers" don't even know about it. So, the bottom line is my harsh statement with using the word "hack", was a concern but more so a warning. No, a fire is always bad and I sure do not want it to happen to anyone. Peter, Don't get me going about what I have seen the HVAC trade do out there!!! It's bad enough what the HVAC OEM's do with their electrics!! |

I hope you are joking... unless the pigtail is about 3" long, or your oven only pulls 15 Amps, you'd better rethink that 14 guage wire.... |

Peter, You certainly must be joking. A range/oven will pull more than the 15 amp load that 14 ga. can handle even considering a short run. GET A licensed ELECTRICIAN. What is the breaker size you hooked it up to????? Do you what to make a claim to your insurance company? Why 4 wires??? You have two "hots" and a ground! You are certainly in a are where you should not be. You certainly must be "pulling my leg" since you can not be that stupid?? |

I was joking on the 3" pigtail, but not about 15 amps... TP84, are you using an easy bake with a hot plate? |

Pete I had the same problem with my stove install used 14 wire also(thats what I had lying around) kept popping the breaker. Finally had to put a 100 amp breaker in now it doesn't pop anymore.

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear! it sucks dealing with/cleaning up/rebuilding after a fire. Good luck with everything!
Are you wood-only for a fuel? Does the boiler heat both the house and the barn? Curiuos what direction you will go for a replacemnent. That panel looks HUGE for a home installation. |

4 wire is now std for range wiring. Extra ground. I always oversize 1 gage, cheap insurance.
