Supposedly, one of the Seals that later was killed, requested help and was denied. Couldn't they have sent in a team of Seals? That seems like a reasonable question to me.

These facts are already out there - nearest strike teams were mobilized and on the way - no there were not seals or any other strikeforce being held back - there simply is not a quick response team in africa - below is information from the Africom info sheet.. youll notice they operate primarily out of a base in Germany.

If someone is really interested in this take the time to read the timelines and actual testimonies from those involved, not the conjecture of people who watch too many movies and then talk on fox.

U.S. Africa Command has approximately 2,000 assigned personnel, including military, U.S. federal civilian employees, and U.S. contractor employees. About 1,500 work at the command's headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Others are assigned to AFRICOM units at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, and RAF Molesworth, England. The command's programs in Africa are coordinated through Offices of Security Cooperation and Defense Attache Offices in approximately 38 nations. The command also has liaison officers at key African posts, including the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre in Ghana.

Susan Rice made some comments after the UN vote on Palestine today (appropriate for a UN ambassador) I just don't know if what she said meant anything or if it was just some false talking points she was given.

I think you can safely assume both are going to happen, even some of the GOP is turning.   Poor Grover, will he have any friends left? Sounds like some have figured out a way around the "pledge".

That's an attention getter that can get there too fast. What does Congress have to say about the massively expensive upgrading they did after 9/11/01? The same upgrades that were designed to handle it yesterday. And to say that we don't have pre-packaged op plans for nearly any possible situation is just silly.

I still wonder why we haven't heard much about the overseas military ballots. I'm not crying conspiracy theory here, but they did poll over 2 to 1 for Romney. Maybe the 500 generals should have come forward sooner.

Here is part of a story on the Sandy relief funds being requested.


" A $60.4 billion spending bill washed up in Washington this week aimed at bringing help to communities hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy.

But a closer look at the legislation shows millions of dollars being requested by lawmakers for projects that have little to do with the storm. Some items, like a proposed $2 million roof restoration for the Smithsonian Institution, even pre-date Sandy, causing some to question the finer details of the federal funding package.

“How much is absolutely needed now? That’s all we should really be considering now, the short-term needs,” said Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who has called the $60 billion request “absurdly high.”

While most of the money -- $47.4 billion – would immediately go to help Sandy victims and rebuilding efforts, the pet projects around the edges could cause consternation.

Tucked in the bill is a $41 million request for repairs at eight military bases, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Customs and Border Protection has asked for $2.4 million to replace "destroyed or damaged vehicles, including mobile X-Ray machines." The bill includes a $4 million repair job at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

An additional $13 billion has also been added in to protect against future storms, a cost some Republican lawmakers say isn’t emergency-related and should be scaled back.

Other sweeteners include $150 million for fisheries in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, and $125 million for a Department of Agriculture program that would help Colorado cope with summer wildfires."




Never let a good crisis go to waste. How can the sleaze we elect think it is Ok to piggyback their pet projects onto the needs of disaster victims. They just cannot resist any opportunity to spend our money.

I am sick of worrying about our national debt, and annual budget deficits, and all other crazy government spending and regulations. I have decided to adopt "Herb Stein's Law".... "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop".

Herb Stein was an economist, and father of Ben Stein (actor, and econmist).

And, according to wikipedia, what he meant is that if a trend (balance of payments deficits in his example) cannot go on forever, there is no need for action or a program to make it stop, much less to make it stop immediately; it will stop of its own accord. It is often rephrased as: "Trends that can't continue, won't."

The way I see it, we can talk ourselves blue in the face about the virtues of conservatism, only to pi&& people off, and never convince them of anything. Ultimately, I think the markets will tell us that we have become Greece or Spain, and will no longer lend us money. Not sure when this will happen, but, at the rate things are going, I doubt it will be long.
