Kap,
Like Andy, I just assumed back toe hold, not toe up start. I must have missed a post or two. I didn't realize you were solid back one foot, let along back toe up start. Very good. I'm impressed. You've accomplished more in a year or two than I have in 40. (no, that's not my age, that how long I've been footin'.) Air is 73 here today. Sure would be nice to get out, but 1 - I'm at work and 2 - I am guessing the water is about 50-ish. I think my next run is in april. Glad we can still live it through you. |

Actually I´m shy on the back one foots, I was just fooling around and wanted to see if it was hard or possible to do what i sometimes see on the vids. My goal was to hand ski, quite impossible and then decided to plant to feet and see what happen!

I´m debating on also trying to do boat jumps! but for that I think I need to put the boom on drivers side...
But lately I´m feeling quite strong in the water! |

Like Larry, that was impressive Seb! One of the hardest things for me to do in barefooting is to progress evenly through the tricks. That is, not going on to the next trick until I am solid on the one at hand.
For example the back one foots were a real bugger for me. About a year into attempting the trick I went back and redefined and improved my basic backward barefoot position to get more bend at the waist and knees. Then I worked the next year at riding a good a back one foot. Most of the time was spent on the reverse back one foot. During that time of working the reverse I was soooo tempted to attempt the back toe hold, especially because I have been able to do the back toe hold on shoes. I held off the back toe until I could ride both back one foots. That takes a certain type of discipline. I think it is worth it, though. I see a fair amount of people who can only do a trick on their strong side. The strong gets stronger, and the reverse gets weaker. |

I'm dyin to see the vids!
back toe up/back toe hold ---all the same, get the skiing foot leg/knee bent(and directly under you in line with rope) and push down with the foot in the strap(keep that leg/knee bent some too--don't let it get pulled all the way out!), keep head up eyes up on the horizon(be sure to look up!!!) you could jump out either side, just get your rope set just right so you can stand where you want to jump from while both hands are on the handle-you want it only long enough to just be able to barely reach it with both hands--boom will be freestyle height. might as well JUMP! |

Two things I saw on the backtoe / hand ski:
To hand ski you need to wrap the handle up short, only use 2 feet or so. On the backtoe don't put your foot through the handle unless its a back toe handle. When you have your foot through a front toe handle and you catch your ski foot's heel you will be in trouble. Just put your foot in same as for a front toe hold and then roll over. This way you can get out of the handle easily if things don't go well by simply pointing your toe. |

yes but at some cost, some debris is floating around! we almost hit a tree that was crossed all the whith of the river, look like it went loose from shore. Had to slam reverse, and almost did the submarine! |

Well Chuck has certainly put down a challenge to Keith and David.
Sacfooter has the only freestyle video of David Small that I am aware of. |

If anyone has set of micrometers and access to their BI boom. Could you please let me know what the exact o.d. of the smaller straight section is?

no secrets really, 25-33 mph, lean wayyyy back, keep handle low and in to waist.
it's not my thing. but i've never worked on it to get it sweet either, just never grabbed me as too exciting. I think Scarpa and McDonald do the coolest version of it by kind of going from knees up to one foot and then back and then the other one foot and so on... I'd say you're going to have to try it and tell us how it goes. video please! |

Kap,
I have some BI booms that I can access and measure pretty accurately, but would you explain or describe the dimension you need, ..."smaller straight section"? How far away from the pylon bolt do you want the OD measurement?? Glad to help. Todd |

Todd, it was for me. I'm having a machinist design and produce a gadget for my boom.

Ryan,
Got it. I'll work on that measurement tomorrow. The part of the boom that attaches to the pylon mounting bracket/bolt is a constant diameter all the way out to the plug-in smaller outer section, and I'll measure that area tomorrow. Todd |
