I watched the Bloomberg interview on gun control he is a poster boy against gun control. No facts or knowledge about guns or the people that legally own them. Chicago has had a gun ban for as long as I can remember how is that working out? Of the 450 plus gun murders in Chicago 2012 how many were by law abiding citizens? So how will requiring insurance, registration and training of legal gun owners do anything to change this? These murders are done by habitual criminals that have been caught and released many times before they kill somebody.
If you want to stop gun violence you need to stop violent people.

well well well, isn't this surprising. from the beginning of the sandy hook tragedy, the media as well as anit-gun politicians have been steppping over these dead children to get their agenda passed by feeding off the emotion and falsifying the facts.

this was about a gun grab from the very beginning, plain and simple. there wasn't even a rifle used or involved. this makes me sick. look like my tin foil hat was not worn in vein on this one.

"A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves …"
Richard Henry Lee

"The people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them."
Zachariah Johnson
Elliot's Debates, vol. 3 "The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adoption of the Federal Constitution."

"… the people are confirmed by the next article in their right to keep and bear their private arms"
Philadelphia Federal Gazette
June 18, 1789, Pg. 2, Col. 2
Article on the Bill of Rights

"And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the Press, or the rights of Conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms; …"
Samuel Adams
quoted in the Philadelphia Independent Gazetteer, August 20, 1789, "Propositions submitted to the Convention of this State"

The Founding Fathers on Arms
"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

Reality

I think that story broke due to misinformation or confusion between reporters and police. Unless you believe there was some sort of conspiracy there, which is relatively far fetched. M.E. Said long gun was used inside school. He ought to know. I don't think we'll ever really know. All the facts of this investigation have been funky , or at least the release of them has. Doesn't really matter to me anyway. Nothing will bring those 26 people back. I wouldn't feel any better about this tragedy if it involved a shotgun or a pistol instead of a 223 rifle. Those kids would still be dead and the sheep would still be blaming the guns.

Great cartoon.

Obama's on a roll, politically. It will be interesting to see how successful they are. I think they are really going to reach.

Open carry is allowed in Maine. On Christmas Eve, a guy walked through a section of Portland carrying an AR15 type rifle. He just had it slung over his shoulder and was not threatening anyone. It generated 65 calls to the police, but they couldn't even question him as he was not breaking the law. Now several police chiefs are proposing changing the law.

What's the saying about never let a catastropy go to waste?

It may be his right, but people that do that sort of thing are doing zero to help the cause. Open carry should be legal, but that doesn't mean people should do it. They should have enough common sense to know when it is and isn't a good idea. I hate hearing stories like that. There was one in NH a few weeks ago too. Guy shopping at Walmart in Seabrook. Pushing a cart through the store with an AK slung over his shoulder. Legal, but dumb. Shoppers were pissed that he wasn't arrested, but the police openly stated he was not breaking the law. Walmart manager asked him to leave and he peacefully complied.

I'm totally against open carry unless it is to/from hunting only. There is absolutely no reason someone should have a need to open carry a firearm. The only time I am open carrying is when I carry my side-arm on my hip in the woods from my truck to the stand, or if I am hog hunting with dogs in which case it is the only firearm I have on me. Purely for last resort protection in case a hog which is bayed decides to charge me on the way in to stick him.
The only reason I can see why people would want to open carry in public is a.) to intimidate, or b.) because they want to be a wise-ass to "exercise their right", which is assenine. Either way, the law needs to be changed IMO.

I am not a big fan of open carry. I cannot stand these guys that sling an AR over their shoulder regardless of it's legality. I also do not care for the guys open carrying on Youtube to provoke people to call the cops, or even to antagonize the police. However, what if it was all open carry, no conceal? It would be so commonplace that no one would even notice any more. The videos of these clods messing with the police does point out that, frequently, even the police are simply clueless about what you are and are not legally allowed to do. Everyone should be educated, and the shock value would go away.

Good points Mike and Bret. As far as Mike's comment, I think that the point he makes about it being common place is one of important magnitude. Generally just do to the fact that most peoples' fear of firearms comes from being unfamiliar with them and the medias portrayal of them being so dangerous and evil. Mostly unwarranted in reality. I have several friends who were dead set against firearms until I was able to coax them into a range trip. Now most actually own their own guns.

Take silencers for example. A mandatory firearm accessory in most European countries, actually considered a safety item. However, in the U.S., heavily regulated due to Hollywoods portrayal of only "assassins" needing surpressors. Completely retarded. We have laws governing noise output on just about everything now, but in order to quiet a gun down you gotta jump thru a bunch of hoops, spend $500-1500 on parts and wait 6-8 months for ATF approval.

If you start reading facts about Operation Fast and Furious it's pretty clear what the governments stance is on firearms. That whole deal was orchestrated to get a stranglehold on firearms in this country and it backfired on them. There is documented information that the ATF and the Obama administration were trafficking guns to Mexico in order to make it look like the guns were coming from U.S. dealers and citizens. Guess they never banked on someone blowing the whistle. When congress requested that Eric Holder present those documents, Obama said he didn't have to. O'Rly? Guess no one is going to be held responsible then. That mess actually started during the Bush administration when the US Govt was allowing one of the cartels to traffic drugs into our country in exchange for imformation on other cartel organizations. Brilliant. And apparently a majority of ill informed Americans think that that's ok. In the wake of these recent tragedies, these anti gun American citizens are doing EXACTLY what the government has been wanting them to do for years and in turn are taking sides with a goverment that is far more criminally minded than 99.8% of firearms owners.

I'm going to drag this to the top again just to link a couple of interesting articles from the Hartford Courant over the last few days, for anyone who might be interested. Not trying to get this debate going again though.

This Article would lead you to believe that there are far more teachers interested in carrying a firearm at school than you would be lead to believe in the news.

And this excerpt from Sunday about the investigation would lead me to believe that the high capacity magazines were most likely not nearly as significant in this tragedy as the antis would like to believe:

Lanza changed magazines frequently as he fired his way through the first-grade classrooms of Lauren Rousseau and Victoria Soto, sometimes shooting as few as 15 shots from a 30-round magazine, sources said.

The rest of the article can be found Here. The rest of the article confirms it was indeed an AR15 used in the school and a Saiga shotgun that was found in the trunk.

Earlier tonight, ABC news had an interview with Mark Kelly and his wife Gabby Gifford.

partial ABC interview

interesting.. even after Gabby was shot and nearly killed, they both still support the 2nd ammendnent. In fact it sounded like Mark has since bought a gun.

They have started Americans for Responsible Solutions. to try and prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.

A question I'm wondering:
What percentage of the people that are calling for an all out ban on "assult weapons", have actually ever OWNED a gun? (close to zero?)

Maybe somebody like the the Gabby and Mark can help bring both extremes to some central ground?

If bans really work couldn't we avoid the middle man and just ban mass shootings?

Why is it the same people who ask "How could you possibly find and deport 12 million illegal aliens?" think we could find and confiscate hundreds of millions of guns?

Poking this hornets' nest one more time to say congrats to the Connecticut residents who should now be living in the safest state in our nation. All new gun laws signed by governor on the 4th.

I find it disheartening that during the televised public hearings that lasted for 16 hours a session that 85-90% of the citizens that spoke in opposition to these laws went unheard. If any of you watched them, it was painfully clear the large majority was against these restrictions and the people who spoke in support had zero knowledge of firearms in general, yet the politicians voted for them anyway. As of 01/14 anyone in posession of an unregistered weapon or magazine will be a felon. A soldier, under 21 years old will be responsible enough to go to war, kill the enemy with a select fire M4, watch his friends die, and possibly lose his life for his country just to come home to Connecticut and have a politician tell him he is not responsible enough buy a semi auto rifle that holds more than 5 rounds.

Up until two days after the Sandy Hook shooting, CT legislators were trying whole heartedly to get Bushmaster to come to CT to setup Manufacturing facilities and were offering them giant tax breaks and govt backed loans with deferred terms and partial payback options. Now they have manufacturers, business owners and law abiding citizens fleeing the state, taking their tax money with them.

One positive outcome of the new laws is that the line to register your weapons is currently forming in the "hood" as thousands of criminals have suddenly decided to do the right thing.

For the record, it has been noted by several CT politicians that once the registration process is complete to the states satisfaction, a confiscation bill will be drafted. So much for no one coming to get your guns.

In Colorado, new laws passed are driving tax paying manufacturers and residents out of the state as well. But its OK says one female Colorado lawmaker.....we have banned these magazines, so as people shoot the bullets out of them and they are all used up there will be no full high capacity magazines left for people to commit crimes with. Another example of a lawmaker writing laws while talking out of her ass. Scary.

Stand by for Supreme Court rulings.......

Certainly the latest victims of the Connecticut shooting are the law abiding gun owners of the state. The next tragedy is still waiting out there and nothing has been done to prevent it.

CNN) -- Nelson, a small Georgia city north of Atlanta, is requiring the head of virtually every household to own a firearm, the city's clerk told CNN Tuesday.

The community's five-member council voted unanimously to approve the measure Monday night.

The proposal was modeled on a similar law in nearby Kennesaw, a measure that has been on the books since 1982. Nelson, which numbers around 1,300 people, is the second city in the state to mandate gun ownership.

"In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore," the ordinance said.

Town wants guns in every household People with physical or mental disabilities are exempt from the law, as are "paupers," felons, and those who oppose gun ownership based on belief or religious doctrine.

Councilman Duane Cronic recently said that the law would give every family the right to protect themselves and their property "without worrying about prosecution for protecting themselves."

The way I see it. Its your choice . If you feel the government will keep you safe then states like IL,CO,NY and CT are a good place for you. If not there is plenty of room for you here in GA.

Here is a very powerful video a friend sent me regarding thoughts on the origins of the NRA, as well as their thoughts on the Obama administration's goals and ultimate objectives. These are black leaders saying this!

Sorry....not sure how to post a youtube link other than how I did it here.

PS: Anybody notice only 88,000 jobs were added in March, and the workforce participation rate is ~63%. Levels not seen since Barack Carter's (I mean Jimmy Obama's) administration. Anybody also notice how both Democrat and Republican Senator's repealed the Obamacare tax on medical devices because it would hurt business. I think (and hope) it's a matter of time before the whole thing goes down the crapper.
