Obama is going to announce his plan for gun limits this Wednesday flanked by a backdrop of school children. I think it is nice that at the same time he makes the gun announcement he is acknowledging those nice kids that are going to end up paying for all the spending he has done.

The president can make executive orders for the executive brach of government, so he can order changes in say how the ATF operates. He can not make law, or change/violate the constitution he swore an oath to protect. Violating the constitution is impeachable.

$1,000 per hour good pay, yea, right, maybe for a Wal Mart greeter. Speaking of Wal Mart, Christy Walton, just one of the Walton family, has managed to sock away 24.5 B, and three of her family members have scrimped and saved and managed to each put more than 20B in their 401K. That's more than $20,000,000,000 each! I'm sure Christy works hard, but she is paid well paid for her time. If she worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no breaks or holidays from the time she was 18 years old until the present, she would have to make $1,678,082 per hour, or $27,968 per minute. I hope she can manage the modest increase in her taxes and doesn't have trouble buying groceries for her family. BTW, according to Forbes, there are 392 BILLIONAIRES ($1,000,000,000 or more) in the US. $1,000,000,000 is the new $1,000,000. I can't believe this thread lives on! |

The president today announced a
1/2 billion dollar plan. Apparrently we have gun violence because the governmant is not spending enough. Big surprise! Next is the new tax on guns and ammunition to pay for it. No infringement there. |

I must admit that I haven't read it and don't know if it publicly available yet, but it sounds like a lot of money. I don't care much either way about gun laws, but it would be nice to see what the result would be if local jurisdictions vigerously enforced the laws on the books now. |

I really didn't see anything too scarey in it, I even read it on Foxnews, so if they trumped it up any it still wasn't scarey unless you fear a background check

I dont have an issue with state run background checks , i dont have an issue with waiting periods, i dont have an issue with some changes but its the frenzy of it all that is getting to me . mispoken press, uneducated public. i am starting to realize the general public that are screaming to take guns away are the same people that get hysterical about an animal that has been mistreated and the person wants the perp to get a death sentence. I guess should just wait it all out . and yes i love animals

They pushed that bill through in NY that they didn't even make provisions for active military and law enforcement. Technically they can't carry any weapons with more than 7 rounds either!!!!! LMAO.

John, I don't think Christi gets paid by the hour. She gets a return on investment (after taxes) as a part owner of a very large multinational corporation that was built over decades. If you think it is so easy why not start your own business and go up against Walmart. If you don't take the millions in earnings you should have a major competitive advantage. Just go out and build the supplier relationships, stores, distribution network and pay all your employees union scale with full healthcare. Easy peasy. Time for the left to put up or shut up. If you are all so smart stop complaining and start competing. |

Andy, I am not trying to defend animal abusers, but although it is well documented that many serial killers started with mistreatment of animals, I have not seen the stats saying "most" people who mistreat animals go on to become serial killers. Do you have the percentage? |

No argument there, When Rudy became mayor of New york he cut the murder rate in half simply by enforcing the laws on the books, and taking guns from criminals instead of law abiding citizens. Today Chicago with all its gun bans and half of New York's population has more total murders, or double the murder rate. |

I quit the rat race six years ago and haven't looked back. You don't have to make $1,678,082 per hour to be happy and I couldn't be happier. |

What are the politics of envy? Do you mean the politics of fairness?
Those who are envious of people with obscene amounts of money have misplaced priorities. Time is the only thing that is limited. I find it interesting that those who frequent this site, most owning at least one inboard ski boat, and many owning more than one home, tell people struggling to pay their bills and feed their family to quit whining. What is important in life to you? |

Many of us have been there. You were not the one who told me to quit complaining. I enjoy boats too, in case you hadn't noticed. I am not complaining that guests here own them, I was recommending that people realize how fortunate they are and remember and pursue things that bring joy to your life. The pursuit of money just for money's same is silly. If no one here had a boat the site wouldn't be very interesting. I would like to meet all these lazy people you all know. That has not been my experience. |

John, read your post. It is all about what someone else has. you are focused and upset about what they make per hour or year. You delight in their increased tax burden. That is envy. In a later post you use the word Obscene to describe another success.
Did your parents tell you every day that life is fair? Mine sure did not.
What is important to the Waltons is the concern of the Waltons. They pay their taxes, and employee thousands. I say thank you. I can be jealous of their success and wish to emulate it, but to wish to steal the fruits of their labor to give to others that have not earned it is envy and amoral. |

John, I have no tarot cards, but I know some things when I see them. Read your post about Christy Walton one more time. You did not mention sustaining anything, only Christy and 392 BILLIONAIRES. Notice you capitalized billionaires. I see the politics of Envy. Admitting your problems is the first step to recovery. As for me I enjoy giving. Even when money is tight, I believe what you give comes back to you, but what the government takes gets squandered. |

Hey Dave, of course I'm teasing you about the tarot cards.
I was just reminding you that you don't know me. Anyone who does would not describe me as envious of others. I live pretty simply and have no great desires for great wealth or a large collection of material things, a bigger house or a newer car. I like this country and I believe that the vast majority of money spent by the government is used for the betterment of the citizens. Most of the programs that the government spends money on are chosen by the representatives we elect. This time many politicians were elected that have different viewpoints than you do. That is how it all works however. The people have voted. As far as admitting my "problem", my name is Jon, and I have become about 15 pounds or so over my optimum weight. I am struggling to deal with that. lighten up and smile a bit. No one is worth a billion dollars. |
