Fun stuff. I am pulling for the boat being original (except the platform and windshield as stated). Even better if the lost 2nd boat is found.

Gary, PLEASE send me my tach!! I have not seen it for 9 months and really miss it!
Bruce, if I got rid of Timmy B's favorite red metallic steering wheel, could I take the 73 out of the beater catagory? |

If not original, we may need a new definition such as "historically" correct. For me it has more interest and value with the stars, stripes, and early documentation of the story than it would with out. I am sure those in the ski club that rode in and behind would say the same. I felt the same way about the red boat that had snoopy on its side for most its life.

I was thinking more along the lines of an East coast pick-up or delivery. Probably a very slim chance of consecutive serials anyway.
But, here's what I was saying about the Airguides. The Black-faced was not even available in 1975 or 1976. |

Sometimes better. Just ask owners of Yenko and Nickey Camaros if they prefer original. I think some of the custom stuff N3 is doing might fall in this category. |

It's funny you mention this, I got a notion when I first heard the story of 2 boats made in 1975 decorated with stars and stripes that it had something to do with the US bicentennial. It would be great if we could find some CC records that supported that theory. I made a phone call to CC a couple days ago and was told that Art C. was aware that we are seeking information/history on this boat and he would response once he was in a position to. I sure hope he is able to find some leads on the sister (east coast) boat.
I've also got another very promising lead to further substantiate the history for the west coast boat that I'm working. Once I've been able to further develop it, I'll share the information back here. |

Just bumping this thread up some so Art C can find it. I just got off the phone with him to talk about a few things. I did mention to him that his name was being tossed around here in this thread a bit and that we were looking for his knowledge about a 'Stars and Stripes' CC. He did say that anything is possible as in those days if it meant selling a boat then CC would do it. CC stayed away from ANYTHING S & S as it was a Mastercraft thing. Art said he tried to find this thread after he got word that his knowledge was needed but couldn't find it. I told him where to find it so he should pipe up here sometime in the near future and fill us in on what he remembers.

Thanks to Morfoot, I have now found the thread. There isn't enough time in the world for me to study these pages in detail, but I feel that if CC had done the logo, they would have used the standard stencil and built onto it, so I'm going to say that I doubt that it was done at the factory. Now, we did have a man working there at the time who was always bugging Walt to let him paint some flame on the boats. He had just learned to paint flame, and couldn't wait to be allowed to paint some. That never happened.
Dave has already done what I would have done first, that is to look at the invoice to see whether it said anything about a special logo. Could be that it was done at West Coast, but, as someone already pointed out, there was no vinyl lettering being cut in Orlando in those days. If parts of the logo are decals, it definitely was not done in the factory. Everything was done with paint until about 1986. There was no question in my mind about the trailer after seeing the photo of the crossmembers, or "wishbones," as we called them. All of ours were bent on a bender built by Harold Meloon, and the angles were not sharp. Glad that the former owner Art cleared that one up. The overall photo of the trailer erases any doubts that it is not CC. |

Yeah, that was the one point when the owner mentioned part of it was vinyl. I knew that couldn't have been done in '75. Nobody had a vinyl cutter in '75. Who had a computer in '75?

I was referring to what's on the boat now. Most likely that had to be all paint then. But the lettering is not close to the factory lettering. The guys doing the lettering back then were Asian. Pauly Banana has pics of the guys doing the lettering back then. I was wondering why no one has mentioned the two breaks in the bottom stripe, looks like patch work.
