I have a speedo line out the back of the boat that I think was detached due to the winter cover. Does anyone know how one reattaches it and what parts I would need to order to fix it? It's for a 1977 Ski Tique.
If you look at the pixs there's a lot of cracking in the gel coat. I've read a lot on this site lately about gelcoats and cracking. Is this what your referring to? Thanks for any info. Pamela

Pamela,
The barb fitting on your speedo pickup has broken off. This is where the pitot tubing is connected. You will need a new pickup. The spider cracking is typical in some hulls. Some get it and some don't however, keeping the boat in the water for extended times is a known cause. Has this boat been moored and not on a lift? Looking at the extent of your cracking, the only way to fix it is to totally remove the gel and then re gel. It's a very involved and expensive process but, you can use the boat as is. |

A new replacement pick up will be a little different and may require new holes. If you watch ebay sometimes you can find the originals like yours. It's a teleflex pitot. The new style ones go for less then $10 and are readily available.
I would not worry about the spider cracks in the gel. Some have done the re-gel thing but it is not warranted unless you are going to restore everything back to original like new condition. |

Thanks for your answers. If anyone out there has one of those pickups laying around I would buy it.
The boat for the last 10 or so years has been on a lift, but it's life before that I don't really know much about except it was in North/South Carolina. Currently I keep it out of the water and only put it in when I'm going to use it. Glad to hear it's not a problem to use it the way it is. It's a great boat. |

You can oval the holes on the body of the new pitot and reuse the same holes in the boat... no need to drill new holes in the gelcoat. That pitot is an Airguide, not a teleflex... They can be pretty tough to find. I have an Airguide pitot that Tim Spangler repaired- he replaced the barb with a brass nipple. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure looks like it would work. Might be worth a shot! |

I repaired my '79 Airguides with a tiny plastic hose barb from NAPA for vacuum use. They had an assortment box. Drilled out the body, cut the hose / hose barb in half and glued in with PVC cement. It has worked very well for 2 years.
Benj has the easiest answer. Im weird. I put a left hand Chevy and tower in my boat, fiberglass seating and a stereo but wanted to keep the speedos original. I may need help. |

thanks, both those solutions sound very doable. I'll work on it next time there is a thaw around here. Should have it fixed before the Green Lake Wi reunion.
