Watching the video above of Kapla March 2013 all I could think of is...Man it is hard to find a good driver:) The issue I deal with is that I do not like rookie footers driving for me and drinking beer. For 2 reasons...One it is hard enough to perform with a good driver ...much less a half A@$ one, and two Have you ever seen someone try to do a bat turn with a BFN...you can't but the beer drinker thinks it will while I am in the water watching:) Time to get my wife or son behind the wheel again. Nothing like training your own personal driver.
Thanks.......Tom

Trust and confidence in your driver is very important to getting better. If you are worried about what the driver is doing you will not learn anything because you can't concentrate on barefooting.

We ski in the river with debris sometimes and when you are barefooting backwards you don't want to be worrying if the driver is going to tow you over a tree branch, or shore.

Best to demand that the beer be drank after the skiing.
Driver should be told to come to a stop in a straight line at idle and then turn around and idle back (if they haven't overshot you by a mile) No power turns!
you can tell them it's so the water stays flat. don't throw rollers down my course.

I drive for one of the most demanding sob's(I love em)in barefooting and it can be a real pain in the endo. So as a skier try to be easy on your driver. Don't demand too much. If your instructions for a pull are longer than 3 or 4 words, it's too much.

Hey Sebastian: you look like you have made a lot of progress on your backwards skiing since I have last looked. Also I know you are the kind of guy who likes to push it and try new stuff. Be careful with messing around backwards. You may want to consider a neck brace. I took a backwards head packer a month ago and with 6 visits to the Chiropractor it is finally better and that is WITH a neck brace.

I would sure like to see you slow the speed down to 39 or 40 and work on your basic barefoot ski position. You really need more bend in your knees and waist, and should get your feet closer. Your head and eyes need to come up; you are looking straight down. Let's see some one-foots on both sides too. That is one thing that Andy has pounded into my head is not to neglect the reverse foot. I waited for 2 years working my back one-foots until I could ride both feet well BEFORE I ever attempted a back toe-hold. I nailed it on my second try and that is because I had the back one-foot solid and practiced the back toe with shoes the whole time.

If you build a solid foundation of basic and reverse foot and progress one technique to the next in a reasonable order of difficulty I believe your fun and safety will benefit. Just my 2 cents.

^^^^The advise is right on.

So that's where you've been, you just need to take a forwards head packer to fix that, we can arrange that

Andy, I was wondering if I was the only one noticing all that debris he pulled him through. There were some very close calls towards the end of the video. Makes me nervous. We also ski in a river at times (Illinios river), and although it is like butter alot of the times, I rarely foot in it just for that reason. I mainly slalom and the river is perfect, and when I finish a set, I think how perfect conditions are for a footing run, and then I remember the stick here, a stick there. The barges churn up the debris and you just dont know what is there at any given time, so I save the footing for the club we belong to that has a strip mine lake. Yes, I know we are spoiled to have clean water like that, but Seb going through that debris reminded me of our river.

That spill reminded me of the summer I was teaching myself back deeps. I had a form problem, in that I was leaving my legs spread too wide as I was trying to stand up. On more than one occasion and then one final time that ended my attempts that summer, the water grabbed both my feet and did what felt like swung them both above my head. Hurt my groin like a son-of-a-gun and, like I said, ended it for the summer for me. Next summer Brad set me straight on combined movement of legs in and down while pulling up off the water and I was golden. Having a little instruction on these things goes a long way. Doing it on your own can be tough. That's why Kapla's progress is so impressive.

Glad to hear it, sorry I did not see it in the vid. Even so, my doc told me there is a lot of damage in my neck from all the falls over the last 5 years. They were never bad enough to go see him. Sore for a few days. I did notice after a behind the boat, backward fall, that my right side was always a little stiff and could not look to the right as easy. That was 2 or 3 years ago. I remember I did not have a neck brace. I forgot to put it on. I was wearing the drysuit and the neck seal tricked me into thinking I had the brace on. Anyway, out skiing a few weeks back I took a good backward fall, so that must have set off that old injury. The doc also said those old, untreated injuryies can be sites for future arthritis. Yikes.

It feels pretty good the last couple of days, but was in a fair bit of pain while he was treating in the last several week. Nothing like a good Chiropractic neck crack... SNAP...ahhhh!

"pain is just weakness leaving your body"-The Barefoot Company

IIRC you crashed 3 times that day. Some days, if you just aren't feelin it, can't get your head into it, it's better to pass on skiing that day. Roy I know you have seen both me and Willie show up and then say...I'm not gonna ski today.

Roy I hope you're feeling better.

Thanks Andy, I am good. More of an annoyance than anything serious. Something to think about, though. Here is a better quote:

"Pain is just your cartilage deteriorating and mobility leaving your body" -SacFooter.

I mounted mine on my BF rope about 12" down from the toe hold. Still. Perfecting the mount but when operational videos are pretty good.

go go gadget arms? When i get in that situations I find I have 2 choices. Fully commit and try a superman grab, which usually results in me having a bloody nose and a headache from hell. Or B. bail into some form of shoulder roll which usually scares my wife and she then refuses to pull me the rest of the day lol. So either way I get a headache, just one can be cured with a beer, the other requires a "go shopping sweetie" approach.
