Go on a Barefoot Clinic with Brendan Paige. Watch amateur barefooters learning sideslides. See Brendan demonstrate what directly on the boom means.
(I do not agree with this method of learning sideslides-I like Lane's method and think it safer)

Can't believe these guys didn't eat it on some of the toeholds.

yup the 92, for the side slides i´m running around 43-44, the rest 40-41

What is your top speed with the 92, do you have to achieve that at start, and what is your weight? (Wt vs Speed formula?)

You don't learn to foot as fast as he is going.

generally- weight divided by 10 plus 20 = barefoot speed

A person can learn to foot at slower speeds than that too.

Andy great videos and pics. Thx for posting. Very motivational.
Got my first toe up of the year Saturday, Back toes and LL toes. I thought it would take longer to get up to speed after being off for 4 months living in the man-cave. Also skied with NO dry suit....Summer is aproaching fast.
Thanks.......Tom

no footer 47, with me in tow 44-45 i guess need to verify...
just footing I can do 36-7 mph, but for tricks i like it faster,
i´m 187 lb so according to the formula i should be fine with 39mph...

I am about the same height and weight as Seb, I often stand up at speeds below 35mph, while learning bacerds, I keep it really slow between 28 and 30. Proper technique allows you to learn at much slower speeds, which lessens the brutality of the wipeouts. Once you get the proper technique down you can pick up the speed with confidence and progress to tricks.

Congrats on the toe up and toeholds. We have been in the wetsuits the past few weeks here. We get wind off and on now. Today 45mph. Get us some video up Tom. I must admit I've been flaking on the video lately. We've skied my double stack SFH a couple times now and I didn't even shoot a picture so I gotta get back on it. The double stack has worked quite well, not any hint of a problem.

Summertime!

Fanofccfan... P-Mac is still doing some footing, and I wouldn't be surprised if you saw him ski for the Canadian team again. But ever since he and Ron Scarpa had a falling out, and Ron Scarpa's Waterports dissolving he has moved back to Canada with his wife Jenn and their two kids. Some of the things that have limited him was his broken neck, and a few other injuries. I think he he lost his passion and wasn't progressing as quickly as the younger guys like Brendan, andre etc. A guy like that can't leave the water forever though. My guess, he will be back in some form or another.

Hollywood,

Andre was just one example.   I think we can all agree that a judged sport doesn't tell the entire story. Andre has an affinity for the water, that few others possess. He has skied several worlds on blown knees and still almost won. Then when you get disenchanted with the process, like what happened this year with Keith getting re-rides etc. You say, hmm I am having a lot more fun with freestyle stuff, why should I beat my head against the wall and conform to a sport that has rules that aren't progressing as fast as new tricks.

That said, I am the biggest fan of Paul, Ron, Casey Scalise, Andy Sable and Dave Small. All guys that have taught me a lot about skiing and life. But you can't say that Andres, henrich and brendan coming in much younger than paul and learning the same tricks it took him years to learn in a matter of months says, it might be time to throw in the towel concerning high end training. Especially, with a broken neck. But you never know, it seems the younger generation doesn't have the attention span of the pioneers. who knows where it goes from here...

189 wt..... so to calculate my weight, I need a speed of, 237.5mph?!? I better lose some weight!
200 +/-, so about 44mph?

Andy Sable, Brett Sands........oh how much fun they were as coaches at Scarpas.   Thanks for the info.   What sort of falling out did paul and Ron have? It's too bad really....they seemed to be a great combo. Oh the good old days!

How did Paul break his neck? Footing injury? I constantly maintain a healthy level of respect for this sport as I get older. For me training in the gym, eating well and warming up with good stretching/cardio before I ever get in the boat is critical. Also, I am not as reckless during my sets as I used to be. If I ski a day with no falls I am thrilled. Stay healthy and keep on footing! No injuries
Thanks.......Tom

Sandsy is a great guy with a zest for life. I have never forgotten his advice.   There's only two problems with that front to back mate... Your ballz...

As for paul, multiple barefoot jumping crashes took there toll and he broke it on a jump he never brought back. I think that having his head turned in the boat day after day wasn't great for it either.   He bought the business when things were going well, after Ron built it from the ground up over 25 years, but even revenue was good, he had too much overhead, stress and payments. A compromise couldn't be worked out and paul felt it was best to head back home. There's more to it than that, but that is the jist. Sucks though, even though WBC is a great school, rsw was a home away from home for many years.

on the front to backs- think about getting the handle to your butt and getting your butt to the handle. If you start the turn with the handle closer to you (bend elbows) it will stay closer to you and be easier to grab with the free hand.

once you turn keep your head up, eyes up, looking out the back for balance

it is far from easy to learn to turn on those BFC shoes so I'm very impressed that you have pulled it off.

Wow! The motor sounds great! But now you have me thinking twice about trying this barefoot stuff?! It looks like you really took a beating? Up and down? You have fun? Where are you running that, on a river or lake? Great video! Thanks for sharing.

I'm reasonably certain that The Barefoot Company had Seb in mind when they made this shirt

Barefooting can be done a bit softer and gentler.

Jerry - honestly it is one of the most thrilling adrenaline rushes you will ever have. Seb is pushing hard to progress to more difficult tricks, you can learn at a much slower pace (and speed). The problem is once you try it, it becomes HIGHLY addictive and you can't get enough. Most of what you saw Seb doing isn't really painful or at least the rush makes you instantly forget about the pain. It really is THAT much fun. If your in Orlando, you have some of the best schools in the world an hour or so away; Lane Bowers and World Barefoot Center. You really should give it a try!

Seb, it seems like you are really haulin' A$$. Tone of the motor sounds much faster than mine.

How fast are you running with the shoe skis on?

Your progression has been fun to watch. Congrats.

Sounds like WFO on the longline runs, and about 30 on the shoes imo.. depending on tricks I usually run 34 on the small shoes.. 37 for fwd on ft. wake slalom on shoes
