I had to remove my throttle shifter lever to get to the panel behind but after reinstalling the shifter I can't get the shifter to disengage the transmission ( with the center button ) so I can rev the engine without being in gear. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong?

The throttle arm is a two part system. As you move the handle in one direction is moves the throttle cable and the shifter cable. The button is just there to push or pull the throttle linkage out of the way so the shifter cable can't engage.

Sounds like you need to pull it back off and see what got messed up. I've worked on a 99 nautique throttle before but I don't remember it that well.
