I have a 13 X 9. You could have a machine shop chuck it up in a lathe and take some diameter off of it.....
This must be something special you are working on. No CC that I have known uses such a prop. Art |

Art, This is for a Compact Skier. In PM's to Mike, I mentioned somethings not running correct with his straight 6 since he can't get the RPM's up. I told him he needs to check the engine. The first thing I told him was to check the timing advance. I have a feeling that it's rusted up. You are correct that a low pitch prop is not solving the problem. |

Try calling delta propeller or oj. We run a 12 x9 on our mustang with 100 hp 170 ci ford six. Or look on eBay for one you can have refinished. I believe you can go down 2 pitches or up one. It is an odd size by today's standards but may well be the right prop for your boat.

I ran the numbers for my 1915 launch with the 1927 Universal 20 HP Flexifour in it through General Propeller. They got back to me within a day and told me both sizing programs they have came up with a 12 x 6. They have both a RH and LH in stock! They are the ones to talk to.

Mike says he has a 12x12 on it now and the Interceptor 144 is only able to get to 3200 RPM. As mentioned, I suspect he needs to look at what's up with the engine. The 12x12 should be a good prop for the Compact. |

Thanks for all of the replies. My boat is a 1961 Compact Skier with a Ford 144 Intercepter (I6) motor.
The motor only reaches about 3200 RPM with my current 12X12 RH prop. The throttle is only about half way engaged at 3200 RPM but I don't want to push the engine any more. The engine just seams to "hit a wall" at that RPM. I believe that my distributor is OK because the engine revs happily over 3000 RPM in neutral and the engine was rebuilt a few years ago and appears to be in excellent condition. I'll purchase a timing light in the near future to check the ignition advance. I currently have about 5% clearance between the prop and the hull so I'm thinking that an 11" prop may be more applicable. I filled out the "Form" at General Propeller several days ago but never heard back from them. I've tried to contact some other Compact Skier owners but have not received a response. I also contacted a couple of owners of boats with Inline Six Intercepter motors and they are running 12X10 0r 12X8 props. However their boats are bigger. Regards, Michael |

Micheal,
Any engine without a load in neutral will rev well over the red line. As recommended, have you hooked up the timing light to see if the distributor is advancing?? |

Don't forget to check the distributor dwell angle (points gap) before you check the timing. Are you running at least mid-grade fuel? Those old engines tend to pre-ignite a bit on today's regular, let alone the ethanol. Excuse me for asking, but is the firing order wired correctly?
Not that it relates to this situation,but are you running a zinc additive in the oil? Art |

Hello Art,
A pertronix unit is installed so there are no points and I have been running 89 octane fuel. The firing order is the correct 1,5,3,6,2,4. The engine idles and runs like a top until about 3000 RPM. I tried to order an engine manual but "marine manuals" does not offer one for my specific engine. Does anyone know where I may be able to get one? I have not been using a zinc oil additive. Would you recommend it? It's going to be a day or two before I can check the timing but I will post results once I have them. Regards, Michael |

I'm new to the Forum so I'm not privy to the issues you guys have with each other. Pete, I PM'd you twice before I listed the WTB 12X8 Prop message. You guys have brought your own issues to my WTB add and I'm just stuck in the middle? I'm just trying to get some knowledge. Can someone point me in the right direction on finding the "stock" prop size for a Compact Skier with (I6) 90 HP engine? Regards, Michael |

The manual is in the reference section. It's the cream colored Interceptor manual. If your engine tops out in the 3000s but is not wide open, that is different than ours. A 12x9 is right for our boat but a 12x11 would only run mid 3000s but it was wide open.
