Hi all.

I wanted to show off my idea for changing the oil in my SN.
I made a tray that just fits under the plug, that has a flex spout that fits into the drain plug in the hull. Then a large funnel on an empty oil container to catch the mess.

Worked great, and didn't cost me a thing.



The only hiccup was that I almost overflowed the funnel. More than 6 litres of oil came out, so after putting 5 litres in, I noticed that it shows only on the end of the dipstick. My dipstick is not factory, so it must be off.
Can anyone confirm the amount of oil that should go in?

I've had to get similarly creative on my older boats. The problem I've found, is that I cannot find a hose that fits through the drain hole that can keep up with the flow of oil coming out of the pan. Overflow city! The oil drain hose kits that Pcm has had for the last 25+ years are really the way to go. Of course, you can only add one when the drain plug is out.

I'll make a guess that you have a common Ford 351w which has an oil capacity of 5 quarts including the filter.

You are right TRBenj, I did have to put the plug in and wait till the oil drained a bit then pull it to let more out. Rinse and repeat a few times till the oil was done.
Gun-Driver, I like that valve idea. I may have to look into that. The adjustable output is a great idea.

I have the oil drain kit and it works like a charm. Super easy oil changes.

or get an oil change pump, have to say, they make oil changes quick and easy...

I have the hose set up with a plug on the end. Pull my bilge plug, feed the oil drain hose through the bilge opening and wrench the plug from the end of the hose from under the boat. Not a drop of oil hits my bilge. Now the two quart wix filter I run is a challenge to remove with no mess. Installed it has less than an inch of hull clearance.
