This season I replaced the port side Airguide speedo on our '94 SN with the a PrecisionStar GPS unit (see pic). I also removed the port side speedo pickup and had the gelcoat professionally repaired—it works and looks great (note that based on the advise on this forum I left the existing tubing and caped it off securely with a stainless screw and silicon). I am think about replacing the starboard side Airguide with the GPS conversion, i.e., the one that allows you to keep the dial speedo but obtain GPS accuracy (I will also remove the starboard pickup and have the gel coat repaired). My Question: Are there any issues with running two GPS units side-by-side in such close proximity to one another? Does anyone use this "dual" setup or has anyone opted for the GPS conversion of an existing Airguide? As always, thanks in advance.

A few years ago through a group buy here I purchased a Precision Star and installed in my 98, Last year I added a Star Gazer throttle control and it can run in a GPS mode. Precision Star seems a bit slower to respond but they don't care that the other is there. My speedo lines were capped but I left the pickup tubes in place.

I like the idea of the precession star but I have always hated reading digital gauges in real time.
Your peripheral vision can't differentiate between a 2 and a 3 but it can defiantly tell the difference in 10 degrees of analog sweep. I do like that the precession star has a trip odometer. |

Kevin, good to know that they will work side-by-side. Zach, I couldn't agree more ... that is precisely why I like the idea of retaining the Airguide analog gauge with the GPS internals. But at $299 for the conversion, I am curious to learn if anyone on the site has gone that route, i.e. the conversion offered by Dean at ClassicBoatworks?
