I have a couple areas of gel that I would like to repair this Fall/Winter. I am in between purchasing a kit from Mini-Craft or trying to source the repair items individually. The kit is $275+, but I have a few other maintenance items I would rather spend money on. The biggest concern is the color match. My boat is a 99 and the affected areas are tan. Any recommendations?

dont buy the kit from minicraft just buy the color matched repair paste - I am thinking you need wt898 - natural. You could try to call up correct craft giving them your hull id and having them confirm what color it is. The rest of the stuff in the kit is basic body shop stuff.

I have done a bunch of small stuff. There are a couple of excellent "YouTube" videos for gelcoat repair. The cool thing is gelcoat is easier to match than paint. Mix the color and match to a clean spot. The gelcoat dries the the same color as wet. It is labor intensive as there are a bunch of steps, but very rewarding.
I had a huge spider crack repaired on the bow of my Fountain in the off season by a guy off Phillips/ St Augustine Rd in Jacksonville. Very reasonable since work was slow. Here is his website: http://www.fullthrottlepowerboats.com/ |

So I am trying to track down some repair paste in the Natural - WT898 color. Contacted Minicraft...here is their reply.
" We do not have any boat records to confirm a color on your boat, you will need to contact Correct Craft to confirm color #. The color Natural # GLD799WT898-Q is $ 136.95 Wax additive added to the $ 13.95 Patch Aid Patch Reducer is $ 55.95 to thin gelkote for spraying. Catalyst is $ 12.95 Plus shipping." Sounds like that is an order for a quart of Gel Coat ($137), plus wax additive to finish ($14) and Catalyst ($13). To confirm, I do not need the Patch Aid because I am not spraying on. Just going to build up and tape as I have seen in previous posts. Anyway to get these things cheaper? Let me know your thoughts. |

Mini craft certainly is not cheap. Your going to need tints when you find out the color is off too,I think they are about 12-15 bucks. If you go with them put some of the gel on the boat without hardner to check the color. Then depending which way you need to go call them and they will help you with what you need.
