Hey All -
New to the site and thought someone might be able to help me figure out the year/model of a boat I just acquired. I'm guessing its around the '55-56 era. Possibly an Atom or Aqua Skier. It has a hull #Q 608 on a plaque on the inside of the engine cover. Let me know where to look or what pictures you want to see to help me figure this out. Thanks! |

Well, start with posting the pictures. Welcome to CCFan!
Is this a "project boat" or something that you can start using now? |

unfortunately, it is a project boat. I was told it ran when they parked it 30 years ago. So hopefully it won't be too much of a project. I will upload some pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

Ok - Here are some pics. Hopefully someone can tell me what I've got.
I also am going to need help finding pieces for it- rails, vent covers, steps, etc. If you have any sources, that would be very helpful. And one more question: The sides have a rail of some sort on the outside(splash rail?). They are different lengths on either side (one is roughly 6" shorter). Is that by design? |

I'm no expert by any means, but, my dad's 1959 had that same dash, speedo, and foot pads. It also had a Taylor Windshield.

Thanks. That makes sense. Has he done any work to it? If so, where did he find accessory/finish parts?

Hah,hah, no. His boat is long, long gone unfortunately. It was probably last in the water around 1977? A ply or two ripped off the bottom which was glassed and he parking it behind our garage. It was my play house/fort. Before he hauled it to the junkyard in the early eighties I stripped it of anything and everything I could. I actually sold the parts on this site in 2004 I think. I'll look in my e-mails and find the member who bought them. I want to say he was from NJ. I'm pretty sure I still have the prop. I kept it as a spare for my 1965 Mustang that had a 70hp Gray Marine. The 1959 had a 60hp Gray Marine I think.

Gotcha. If you want to sell the prop (and can find it) let me know - mine seems to have walked away.
Thanks for your help. |

Nice little boat. Looks like Pete's or better yet find Old Spice in images, could be the sister boat. The Gray engines with the prefix of G were made in 54, 55 and 56 so that should narrow it down. The instrument panel was a standard used many years and is the same one we have in our 1950 Junior. What do you think at this point the extent of your restoration will be? Love to see more pictures of the condition of the hull. How is the stem area? Awesome little boat when you finally get it putt putting around again!

I think I am going to have to replace a good deal of the plywood. Might change it to a nice wood look rather than the white paint. I will add some photos of the tear-down when I get into it. Any idea where to find replacement accessories - vent covers, steps, the chrome fringes, etc? Thanks for your help. |

Pretty broad statement on a 50+ year boat. Are you missing them? What do you exactly need? Chrome parts will need to be rechromed, any you find will be like the ones you have. One of our members found a good chromer, good work, good price, fast turnaround. Many of us has used him with the same results. |

OK - Here are the splash rails I was referring to.
Are these supposed to be different lengths? Anyone have any ideas? This one looks to stop about 3 inches from the front This one looks about 8 inches back. |

Good point. I will try and take pics of the parts I need. Sounds like I will have to try and repair/rechrome any I can salvage. Stay tuned..... Thanks. |

I'm pretty sure the splash rails are supposed to be the same length. The shorter one could have met up with a dock post or something similar at some point in time.
I must say that boat is in amazing condition considering the age and the fact that it hasn't been run in 30 or so years. That's a pretty awesome find. |

Very cool.
There was a guy selling Atom parts on Craigslist a few weeks ago but I can't find it anymore. It seemed like junk though and not the parts you wanted. One piece was the transom... |

Well, I haven't updated for a while. Project seemed to drag on a little. However, We're nearing the end and thought I'd post some pics for y'all.
Added a swim platform Parts I had chromed - still need to find another step piece (rectangle) and the robber inserts that say 'Correct Craft.' Any ideas, let me know! New Engine Cover |

I rarely go to the new section so I totally missed this thread. It looks like you sure have done plenty of work on the Aqua. Too bad there's a big gap in the photos as I as well as others would be curious as too the in between work. What did you do on the bottom?

Bob,
I'm impressed. Looks fantastic with the exception of some extra wood aft of the transom. |
