Happy New Year, Stringers are done and I am ready to pour foam in my 1981 SN. I am on the US Composites web site and see there are a few choices. Does anyone have a suggestion of which type and how much foam I need to order?

Camera suffered from traumatic injury resulting in its death!!

I will take pictures before I foam!!! 2lb it is. Do you think 16lb or 8ft3 will be enough?

The density you want depends on how you plan to use it. Are you doing a plywood floor, or fiberglass right over the foam? For the latter, I'm pretty certain you want 4lb or better, as you need it to support weight.

Do the math on the under floor volume you plan to fill, but there's no way a 16lb kit will cut it if you're doing the whole boat. You'll probably need an 80lb kit, and possibly more than one. Foam is a pretty expensive part of a stringer job if you choose to put it back in.

I am going back with fiberglass deck over foam. I was considering using foam board cut to fit then sealing it in place with the pourable foam. It would help with support and offset the cost. The under bow is definitely the killer in cubic feet!

I had a go at working it out flotation for your SN hull using 4lb foam and came up with 20.64 cubic feet for neutral buoyancy + x1.33 for positive buoyancy 27.45 cubic feet needed.

Have a table you can use in my thread just above stringer drawings UK's 78 SN

Good luck with the rebuild.
Lets have a go

Although fighting the enemy is considered normal, the Army frowns upon fighting among the troops. So much so that after one too many battles royal, my uncle was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in which he had to endure some odd questions. "If you saw a submarine in the Sahara, what would you do?" "Well, I'd throw snowballs at it," he answered. "Where'd you get the snowballs?" the doctor asked."Same place you got the submarine."
