How are you doing with all the snow? Anyone without power?

Looks this this current storm is tracking further east than expected. We just got downgraded form 6-12" to 4-8". We've had a ton of snow, a bunch of rain, and bitter cold temps all in the last two weeks. Miraculously, i haven't lost power yet this winter. Looks like maybe a storm again Tuesday, then rain Friday. Strange season.

Going south on the weather, how did you make out? I saw pictures of Atlanta at a dead standstill! No traffic at all after you guys learned your first lesson. With all the Delta cancellations, did you even have to go to work? Maybe so since they need to be repaired even though they aren't flying!

Pete we left Illinois last Tuesday morning. Was going to wait an extra day but then decided just to go. Just north of Atlanta it started raining,car said it was 31 out.Very little traffic on the roads I think they were by now gun shy. Stopped at Forsyth for the night all kinds of electric company trucks in the lot. Clerk at hotel was panicked saying their electric will be out by morning,they have emergency lighting but won't be able to have breakfast! Still raining when we went to bed. I woke up around 530 looked out,still raining.Got the Mrs up and said lets get out of here.Still next to nothing traffic wise,still at 31-34*. Nothing but rain almost till the Florida border,and more electric company trucks headed north. It actually was the easist drive we ever had thru Georgia and the rain at least helped us get the Illinois salt off.

Pete I made out okay, thanks for asking. Like Gary said, just rain on Tuesday but the Gov wasn't taking ANY chances after the 2" of snow that quickly melted on the roads and the temps dropped like a rocket turning wet roads into a ice rink. Roads were clogged with traffic and the DOT LITERALLY could NOT get out to treat the roads and THAT'S what paralized the city not the snow.

Atlanta weathermen said Mon night that we were gonna get ice and frozen precip and many of our viewers WILL lose power. It's Gonna happen so prepare yourselves. I personally got wood next to the house and filled up the Kerosene can just in case I lost power.

I was supposed to go to work as it's a normal work day. The only days Engine Maintenance shuts down is July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas days. The Foreman said you are supposed to report for work but use your descretion as to whether you can make it in or not. (How nice of him ) I chose not to go in even though I have a 4x4 as the back roads to the interstate would probably be iced over. Went to bed at midnight Tuesday and it was still raining out. When I woke up at 0430 to go to work I looked out of the window and the roads and vehicles were covered in ice a 1/4" thick with sleet on top of that. By noon the roads had melted but by 4pm the roads were a sheet of ice again as rain turned into sleet. Power fickered off and on a couple times but I never lost mine but about 150,000 others weren't so lucky.

Thursday the ice was thicker on the Durango but I knew that the worst was over and that temps were gonna be above freezing that afternoon so I waited till about 8:00am and headed for work. The back roads were still icy and slushy but as long as you stayed in the troughs it was okay. The DOT and county crews did a great job getting stuff down as it was all over intersections and bridges. Trees leaning over from the weight of ice and a winter wonderland out there. Once I got to I-75 the two inner lanes were free and clear and I was running 65mph all the way to the airport. 5 of us showed up for work out of about 60 guys and the 'Skipper' bought pizza for lunch for those of us who made it in. Talked to the Nurse on duty as we're pretty good friends and she ended up sleeping on the cot at the nurses station. She said folks who work upstairs slept on the floor in conference rooms. Still had flights in and out of Atl so those working the flight line probably made some serious $$$$$$ the two days. That's why I went to a shop 13 years ago...I ain't working in crappy conditions....I did that gig when I was in my 20's. Give me 70'F temps in the shop year round.
I stayed late cause I got there late so I only had to use a day of PPT. FYI....it was 65'F here yesterday on Sat...Crazy GA weather for sure.

Here on the MA CT RI border we got snow and enough of it. We have been fortunate that power companies have done some good trimming in the past few years of hurricane and tornado activity in the area so power has be ok.

We came thru pretty late Tim and figured if we stopped we might be your guest's for a week! By your pictures it looks like we did good to keep going. We'll see you in a little over a month

Did you see about the collapse of the Katz's Marina boat storage building yesterday? Evidently 22 classic boats were crushed. Very sad. Katz's is on Lake Hopatcong in northern New Jersey. Its been a long winter in a part of the country where we haven't had many long winters in recent decades.
