Hello.. I'm new to this site. I just purchased a 1988 "2001" in need of restoration. I have been reading old forums seeking info. on the teak wood. My boat has two broken and missing pieces of interior teak trim. They are the botton edge pieces on the port and starboard sides. It look like outside corner of house trim. Can I purchase this at a specific site or does it need to be hand made? HELP....

They would probably need to be hand made. I doubt Correct Craft would have those parts available anymore.

Check out www.jamestowndistributors.com
They carry a teak L moulding that might work. |

thank you so much for your reply. Does anyone know where to find a replacement instrument panel that indicates which buttons on the dash control what. the one in this boat is broken in a couple places and I would like to replace it. Oh, what about the rope thatgoes into the rubbermolding around the boat?

The rope is 5/8" 3-strand braided nylon. I did a quick search of "rope" and this is what was said twice. Buy 10' longer than what you measure.

I had an 88 with the cracked dash problem...... could not find anyone locally and/or CC dealers that had one. They all said to call CC headquarters to ask if they had some laying around. I sold the boat before I got to calling them. Might have to get one custom made........

marks,todicus,Hollywood,and TRBenj,
thank you so much for the info. I will use this to begin the project. I have already gutted the interior and taken off all of the platform parts and other outer parts to get ready to prep and paint. I found the font for the 1988 lettering in the reference section of this site. Thank you who ever put that in there. I will try to put info. into this site to help others behind me. Does anyone know if the checkered lettering for the 1988 vinyl is hard to come by. I was hoping to go to a vinyl graphics place and see if they can do it. Anyone have any good ideas? |

Have you tried contacting a dealer to see if the vinyl is still available? They still had some for my '90. Im not actually convinced the vinyl is different from '88-90. If theyre not the same theyre very close. If they have it, expect to pay close to $200 for both sides.

TRBenj.
I do't have a CC dealer. Will you get me either the e-mail or phone number to yours and I will contact them. The picture of your boat is awsome... Did you use CC colors or did you get the vinyl and have it matched at a shop? Brad |

Hey '88. HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like a possible market out there for a dash. I work in aircraft engine composite shop and might be able to make a new dash out of some out of date material. I saw where you said it was cracked but are all the pieces there. If you could send me the old dash I could use it as a pattern and make a new one out of carbon fiber ( if I can find some) or some fibergla$$. If I had a chinese blueprint it shouldn't be a problem. Let me know if your game.

'88, those are the original decals. Theyre still on the boat, but I bought replacements in case I ruin them when I buff out the gel coat. The new decals are from Correct Craft. I got them through White Lake Marine, but any dealer should be able to get them. Ive had good experiences with both White Lake and Adirondack Marine.
The decals dont actually match the gel coat- theyre white, gray and clear. The red color you see on mine is actually the gel coat coming through. |

Ours is cracked in two right above the steering wheel. Morfoot, if yours is intact why don't you take it off and trace it? That'd be a perfect pattern since you know it's right. |

Hey Wood, I guess cause " If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" If 88'already has his apart anyway and he can send it to me then I can use his instead of pulling mine apart just for pattern. Sure if I had all kinds of free time like BKH ( sorry Brian I just had to throw that one in there)then I'd do it. Would you care to take yours out "wood" and make a pattern then send it to me? I'd go for that too!

I got no problem sending it, I know it's a little more than a few screws but if it'll help someone out I'm all for it. I wouldn't mind a fresh face on the dash for myself either.
Basically we need to know how bad '88's is banged up first. |

I'm all for that. I figured since 88' said he was restoring his then I wouldn't need to remove mine. I haven't quite figured out to relabel the swiches/cb's upon replacement. I don't think labels would look good. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm not in the printing business and haven't the slightest clue as to how you do that.
Alan, can you (not YOU persay) screen print onto a plastic type surface and it not chip off with a fingernail? |

I don't but can recommend a guy in Carol Stream that will do it for you. You would have to supply him with scraps of the new material for him to do some test prints on and you can determine if it's durable enough for you. Depending on the cost of the material you might consider making a few of them, I hate printing on one of anything cause it has to be perfect and you only get one try. I'll help you out with making the films so you can save some money. If this turns out to be a real project just send me both the old and the new dash panel and how it is to be labeled and I'll lay it out. |

Another possible solution is to fab the panel out of metal- aluminum would probably be easiest. A machine shop could probably make one up pretty easily if you give them a good drawing with dimensions to work from. From there you can have the switch labels silk screened or etched. Laser etching looks great, but it may get pricey.
Regular etching is easier, and I dont think its too expensive. If you have the panel painted or powdercoated before its etched, the base material will show through when the labels are etched in. |

Tim,
I like the laser etching on metal better than polycarbonate, it looks better and will last for ever. I can still help you guys with the layout and know a very good engraver but once again let me know what material you will be using before you go cutting into anything. If you get a rough size and layout I could fax it to him and get an idea of the cost. |

Gentlemen,
My instrument panel is broken in 1/2, 2 corners are missing and it looks like where it is broken in the middle pieces are gone. I do have all of the lettering on it that indicates what each button is. I am interested in trying to work this out if others are. I will do what I can. Just let me know. Brad |

I guess it is a matter of what you want and how much $$ your willing to spend. Sure aluminum is one way, fibergla$$ and carbon fiber is another. It all depends on personnal pref. With fibergla$$ you could paint it black or color match it to your gelcoat scheme with poly paint. Carbon fiber if you want that look. I'd be happy to try fabbing one out of either but aluminum through a metal shop with laser etching is a little out of my league and probably too pricey for my wallet.

What if we were to use black carbonfiber and then get a vinyl cover made with the lettering on it similar to the CC lettering on my 88 2001. TRBenj said its clear vinyl with the white, so what ever color is under the vinyl shows through. So if the lettering was printed on the vinyl and the rest was clear you would have the black of the panel come through with the lettering already on the vinly. The trick would be to get the vinyl lettering in the correct place. Just an idea...

'88, my comment on the vinyl was in reference to the decals on the side of the boat, sorry for the confusion. The dash panels are no longer available from CC.

TRBenj,
Thank you, I was suggesting that we use the same concept as the lettering on the side of our boat. Have a vinyl shop put the instrument button identification on clear vinyl and then we mount this onto the carbonfiber plate made by morfoot. This was just an idea to get this made and get the lettering. I have no idea if this can be done by a vinyl shop. I'm not knowledgeable on this subject. Brad |

TRBenj,
Do you happen to have the telephone number to White Lake marine, and or Adirondak Marine? I want to contact them tomorrow about the lettering. Brad |

"88,
Have you found the teakwood interior moulding yet? I have an idea if you give me the go-ahead. I have an aquaintance that owns a cabinet shop. I could call him and see what it would take to use my mouldings and make copies out of new teak wood. I have no idea how expensive it would be as I am not a woodworker, but it wouldn't hurt to find out if it could be done. My mouldings are all in tact but I need to take them off anyway to refinish them. They are pretty weathered. Kurt |
