Wait until someone else breaks down to borrow their exhaust hose. So that's the starboard side, but I assume you will be replacing both sides anyway...

You could probably call Woody to see if he has replacements at hand or can get them and just pick them up locally seeing as how you're coming anyway. He's planning on hanging out with us from what I heard and will have a boat there at the show.

Just started checking around.. no one in town has any 3" corrugated hose. I would like to replace both sides while I'm at it. The boat currently has 3" copper straight pipes in it. (that surprised me on a 73)

Weighing out the options right now, as I see it....

1)Get all new hose overnighted and eliminate the copper straights.
2)Get hose overnighted and replace all rubber and leave copper staights.
3) Get 3" metal elbow and run 3" straight rubber hose all the way out.

would love to get it back together before pulling it 1300 miles...

If you strike out with Woody I have the hose you need and could bring it with me to SJRR.

Man don't get rid of those copper pipes. If so bring them with you and I'll buy them. Wednesday Southeast had 3" wire reinforced. Looks like yours is worse than mine but I developed a small leak in mine, no wire protrusion. I'm embarrassed to say this but I didn't want to do what you are right now until January so I opted for red rtv smeared in and around hole, wrapped it a few times with 3m electrician "rag" tape then 2 layers of quality black duct tape and this weekend I put 15 hours on it and no leaks, knock on wood.

So why isn't replacing what is broken and leaving the rest alone an option?

It is for now... but dont want to trust 40+ year old hoses for the long term. Will start with replacing the bad, but if time allows would like to replace all.

After some quick phone calls, pending a call back with freight options/ delivery time/ and costs, here's where it looks like I'm going.

Planning to replace the existing hoses and leave the copper straight pipes.

"Funny thing" is - checking out the exhaust hoses was on this summers to do list. just wasnt timing it for now.

Keep the copper pipes!

If you wait until you get to FL you'll be able to have a couple guys helping you and the hot sun will make that corrugated bend better. It is much easier with a few extra sets of hands.

Thanks for all the help offers!!!

Just ordered the hose and "should" be here Wednesday. I am hoping to get it back together before leaving.... BUT... if I run out of time, we will be dragging a broken down old heap and parts to fix her.

Have to say, last night when I found the problem, I was a bit bummed. Never thought I would be able to order parts, tear it apart, and get her back together before we leave this Saturday. ....thank you Lord!!!!

btw, short of another problem, the copper is staying!

update... still tearing the ol girl apart. took the gas tank out tonight. Lot easier to reach the exhaust tip clamps..

Decided to replace all the hoses while I'm this far into it..
Glad I did!!

Starboard side removed..

Port side removed...

Lesson learned ...check your 40 year old exhaust hoses! (or never put of tomorrow what you can do today?)

Lil Sue and I will be showing up at Parramores Thursday evening but will be staying in Daytona (since that is where we live). Does anyone staying at the campground need firewood for campfires or cooking. I have access to a lot of free seasoned oak firewood and can haul it up there.

I will try to bring some freshly caught Florida Blue crabs and Stone crab claws for the Saturday dinner, it all depends how many I catch in my crab pots. Sometimes I catch a lot, sometimes the traps are empty

Hello 62 Wood,

Interesting on the copper pipes. Mine had inline mufflers. I will look for pictures, hopefully I can help find a part name and number. After getting my 1973, Bruce in parts was able to look up the date built, engine specifics. Mine had the Palmer 255, which I thought was cool.

BTY- I left a message for Larry yesterday about the factory tour. In my message, I informed him that many from CCF would like to attend around 10am.

Thanks-Scott

Hey 62wood,
You might want to check your rudder stuffing box while you have the fuel tank removed.

Hey Morfoot,
Do you know of or can find out from the ACBS man where non ethanol gas can be bought in the Tavares area prior to launching the boat? I would guess many people attending would like to know the answer tothis question. Thanks!

Good Question.....Todd V do you know seeing as how you are local; or maybe Ralph????

Speaking of fuel. Y'all that are traveling and dragging boats with you. I'd fuel up before you enter the Fla. Gas is about $.20 a gallon more once you cross into the sunshine state. If you don't already have the app on your smart phone then I'd suggest you download GasBuddy. VERY COOL app to have as you can find stations loclly or via map view to find the cheapest fuel when the needle is close to E. I use it all the time.

Ralph...by all means...BRING EM' Can't get much better than fresh crab meat. We'll have a fantastic cookout for sure...Kap find a way to bring your pit up from Argentina and we'll let you do the honors!
