The Seaplane/Marina that is hosting the boat show in Tavares has ethanol free gas, along with two in Mt. Dora (Harris oil, 21901 hwy 441, and Palm Gardens RV, 11801 Burleigh blvd.) Look online at http://pure-gas.org state of Florida.

kapla, glad to see you will make this one....With your cooking skills ,you would fit right in with this bunch of mis-fits..
From the humble start our little event has grown to include world class members,Lewy, Roger and yourself .If any of you think the drive is too far , Ask Roger and Ady how far London is???

I want to take a minute to thank all that have worked so hard to put this event on.I will not try to name them,as I am sure to miss someone, but they will be wearing the long sleeve "STAFF", please thank them at the show.

SJRR 2014 will be a tad different this year, larger and more boats, and a bit of a drive for most of attendees. We have a once in a lifetime chance to show the boating world who we are.

Lets also thank our sponsors, for the wonderful door prizes,

Nice chatter on the site about precautions some are taking to get road ready. Decided that maybe an ounce of prevention was needed here, too. I had my bearings pulled and the man said I would probably not make the Fl. line on mine. Seven more days and a wake-up and I head south. Can't wait to see everyone.

Good call Jackie, side of then road bearing replacement is no fun.

Now for a good bearing story. The trailer under the Hurricane came from trbenj but before that came from Joel(m3fan) and he installed the bearings that are in it now. That was along time ago, possibly 8 years. Since I still can't do any work with my hand injury I had my mechanic put some fresh tires on the rig and pull the bearings for a check, he said they were perfect so they just got a clean and repack and new seals, good job Joel! We did discover the wheel cylinders were blowing brake fluid everywhere so we're throwing a fresh set of brakes on it while it's apart. She'll be good to drag anywhere we want this summer and we do intend to put some miles on it.

Scott,
As an ACBS member for over 30 years, I can say we all don't find a need for the ethanol free gas. Storage over winter yes but if you're going to burn it within a couple months, the ethanol is not a problem. Are you worried about it??

Pete:

I get non-ethanol on my lake so no worries here, and I certainly wouldn't challenge your mechanical acumen; but I've seen a piece of ethanol-degraded fuel line from a fairly new boat and I'd avoid it like the plague.

P.S to all 2014 attendees: Looking forward to plenty of photos...

Ha, it's probably all of 9 years now Alan- I bought the boat in Nov 2005. Those bearings always ran ice cold for me, bravo Joel!

Not sure if you saw my other note about the tires. If you don't want the old ones, I'll buy them back- seriously!

Jackie, make sure you air up your tires too- they always look dangerously low on air to me! Fill em right up to the max pressure (should be 50psi).

Wish I could join you guys, tip one back for me!

BTY- I left a message for Larry yesterday about the factory tour. In my message, I informed him that many from CCF would like to attend around 10am.

Thanks-Scott

Scott,
Art and Reid found the Microfiche dealer invoice for my 73 and took a picture of it. I have a copy of it...A little hard to see, but pretty cool to have. It shows my engine as a 270hp Crusader, while the valve covers have "Correct Craft Powered by Thermo Electron" decals on them. (from what I understand, this is the time frame Crusader was buying out Thermo E.) The price sheet doesnt even show this engine as an option.

Would still love to find more info on my 73, as well as an original brochure.

You might want to check your rudder stuffing box while you have the fuel tank removed.

Scott, this boat has always been very water tight... as for checking the thru hull packing, I have no way to get her in the water before getting to FL. Lots of ice up here yet.

My "checking" was more luck than anything. While changeing oil, I just happened to notice one of the rusted out wires protruding out of the hose side by chance. VERY glad I did!

Just an FYI, for anyone passing thru SC/GA particularly around Savannah, there is a big gas/convenience store chain called Parkers throughout the area that are really nice/new, and they all have non-ethanol pumps, or at least all the ones I've been to.

I hate to complicate this thread more but while on the fuel subject, fill up in SC if you're driving down 95. FL and GA prices on 95 are now the same and my 07 2500hd on non ethanol improves its mpg 15% even when towing.

I would suggest you get your truck in to have it repaired. Since gasoline/ ethanol 10% blend has 97% of the energy content of straight gasoline there is something wrong with your truck's fuel map, O2 sensor, fuel injectors, or some other component in the fuel delivery system. In some cases this could be causing engine or emission system damage. 3% less energy = 3% less mileage if the truck is in proper operating condition and the sensors are providing accurate feedback to the ECM.

Yeah I'd say something's wrong with my truck and it starts with the word Chevrolet. You've never met a bigger, more die hard GM fan than myself and my family but after this truck I WILL NEVER buy another GM product ever. Same with Ford and Chrysler. I just wish I could get 1/4 the service out of my Chevrolet as I have with our 2 Hondas. Call me a traitor but if its not Honda or Toyota, I won't buy it. At the end of the day I want my vehicle in my driveway, not the dealership and I want my money in my wallet. At 138k miles I should not have the problems I do with the mpg I do and I should not have to question the ability of my truck to make my monthly trip to Virginia.

And let me back up a step. I say my truck gets better mpg on non ethanol fuel. I should say it gets better mpg from fuel from VA and SC which when I purchase there it does happen to be non eth. I've never run non eth from FL in my truck so I can't say for certain it's non eth, just assuming which we know how the assuming phrase goes. I've seen this routinely every month that I get better mpg from other state fuels. So when you guys come in, especially the gas guys. Make note on your mpg from FL fuel and let me know if you get the same results.

John would the 96% number be for fuels with the same octane rating. Is he comparing a 87 octane ethanol? Most non ethanol pumps are premium with a 91 or 92 octane rating.

Sorry to hear that about your truck, I only wanted to share that information so you didn't damage it. 15% less mileage is about what you would expect from E85. It should run fine on pretty much whatever octane you use except E85. Sometimes a problem like that is as simple as an O2 sensor. I am sorry to open a can of worms, I was trying to be helpful.
Enjoy the event and friendship, I wish I could be there.

I hear ya. I guess you win some and lose some and i wasn't lucky this round. But I do believe that there's a lot of altering of gas and its not to our benefit and not all gas/batch is equal.

Come on john. We love our cans of worms here. I have no idea how to convert octane to energy. I pay at least a 20% premium (no pun intended ) for non ethanol premium to run in the boat. I cant see a payback to put it in my tow vehicle. I would be curious to know what energy percentage increase I get for the boat with 4 more octane and the 4% for non ethanol. The knowledge might make me feel slightly better at the pump.

I wish they never invented E85. They give all the corn farmers all this govenrment money for corn and the stuff sucks. Then pass it off to the world as green gas, yea its green gas alright the kind that takes the green out of your pocket. E85 will give your worse gas mileage thats for sure doesnt matter if your tune up is off or not.

I agree plus the world needs that farming land to produce food for an exponentially booming population. And it really drove my feed bill through the roof.
