Hey guys i need a little help. i am building a 350 for my 79 tique and when i instll the pistons something just does not seem rite. It is harder than it should be to rotate the crank. "i know how hard it should be"
i have found the source of the problem to be the oil scraper rings. If i take them off and put the piston in with just the other rings it is fine. I know the scraper rings should add some resistance but not as much as they are. |

Thanks Bobby

What is your piston to cylinder wall clearance?

Check the end gap of the oil rings in the cylinder, maybe they are the wrong ones.

All the gaps are correct. I made special effort to check each one.
the pistons are going back in just as they were removed. Same bore same direction. I will have to double check that piston to cylinder spec, but i am sure that it was within tollerance. I think my compressor may have something to do with it. It is the cheap type with two bands that you just tighten down. it does not seem to sit correctly over the bore. i am going to buy a different compressor and see if that does it. |
