Hollywood-
It is the goofy camera mount to the tower. Function of trying to capture videos while only a driver on board. Need to see if the GoPro has a pivit option that may work.

I had camera issues - GoPro was set to picture instead of video so I end up with multiple selfies.

No Greg not quite there, you are leaving the "quote" format codes in the post. Go back to my post where I embedded the videos for you. Look at how the tube format codes inside the [] are used. Just copy the tube inside the [] line only. Then change the filename of the youtube video.

The only reason to use the "quote" was to look at how a successfully embedded video would look you do not use "quote" to embed the video.
If you're going through hell, keep going

Regarding links: I was all confused. Hollywood and Adam were talking about the videos, but I could see no links or attempt at links. Not until late in the evening, after Greg's 10:58 post (where the links did show up) did it occur to me to go back and do the quote thing to see the guts of Greg's posts, and then I saw the links, which seemed to be correct, so I dont know why they didnt show up. Oddly, this morning I realized they did show up on my phone, which is usually the first place things disappear.

Re: Bryan's fall. It was awesome. I told him that I think they could hear it in Charlotte. It sounded like a thunderclap.

Re: Greg's runs. He did great. Two long runs. He does have video of one of his runs, but didnt post it, but since he asked me to verify it, I will. He had a couple of awesome long runs, and one shorter one, that I thought we did capture on video.

Re: Hollywood's comment "Stand up, Larry" Are you referring to my feet being too far out it front? If so, I know I do that because that's teh way I am in 9 out of 10 of my videos. Every now and then my form is better. Greg commented on it too yesterday. Trouble is, I don't know how to fix it, how to get my feet more under my butt. I am open to suggestions. I've got two things going against me, 1 - I don't know how to do it and 2 - the mental part is, I fear if I try to tuck my feet under my butt, my heals will go down and catch, and as many as I've done, I still dont relish going out the back, or front, or whatever you call it when you go backwards. (When I was fussing putting my neck brace on I told Greg, you don't need them for every fall, but when you do have one of those falls, its good to have one) Little did I know a few seconds later I demonstrated one of "those falls" I did get to see pretty flashy little stars for a while tho.

My quest for the day was LLBDs. I did about six tries. Patience, patience, patience. On my last try I did actually start getting my body off the water and Greg said it all seemed to look right, so maybe there is a chance it will happen this year.

All in all, a great morning. Lot's of fun, fun to see Greg really ski away his back deeps, Glad I could be a part of it.

Yes. Bend your knees, pick your head up, not just look up. Most importantly, slow down. Doing so will clean up your form and stability. You're able to toe ride when hauling ass, which is probably why you're so defensive. You're not putting any spray forward, which to me says fast. A slow[er] heel catch won't be so painful.

Funny you mentioning head position. Greg said the same thing on an early run and I tried to correct, but good point about looking up vs head up. Interesting comment on speed. Never thought of that. I typically tell drivers 36ish which I am guessing is about where Greg had me. Do you really think that is too fast for a 190 pounder? I guess it cant hurt to tell my driver to slow down a bit, 34 - 35? to see what it feels like.

Interesting. I'll give it a shot. I hear what you are saying about skiing defensive. For me, its never a real leisurely ride, more a survival run. Maybe slowing down will change that. I took one run on Greg's shoe skis yesterday and he said we were going about 27. Pretty good training I guess. I don't own a pair, but should. What speed would you recommend for my long line work?

36 would probably be fine long line, at least a good place to start but you could still ski slower than that the first couple times. Look for forward spray that stays primarily below your knees. Definitely do not want to see your heels yet. This is my "endurance" speed, probably ~35 mph +/- 1.


Too fast and you don't have enough foot in the water, which will make it feel slippery and out of control, especially on glass water off the boom.

I was thinking the same thing but figured it wasnt my place to comment. Besides, it kind of fits his personality. He is a real dynamo that has two speeds off and full. He makes a case of Red Bull look like a snifter of brandy. The baseball grip is stronger than the overhand grip and if Bryan isnt trying to pull the boom out of its sockets or the pylon out of the boat then clearly he's not pulling hard enough.

Hey Larry:

I am coming into the conversation late. I watched the 2 vid's that Greg posted of you on the backward boom runs. great starts and you got into skiing position really fast. once up, you need to make some adjustments in your posture. Your body is almost in a straight line with almost no bend in the knees or at the waist. In this postition, the pull comes through your shoulders and makes you top heavy. You caught your heel on that fall and your are sooo stiff that you went over quick. A couple of years ago Davis Small fixed the same thing in my posture. It is a strange thing to correct because the knee bend is hard to get in there by just trying to bend the knees. For me, the bend in the knees came with bend in the waist, and sticking my ass to the handle. With more bend at the knees and waist, the pull will come through your center of gravity v. the shoulders and I promise you will be less prone to catching a heel.

FYI 36 MPH long line backwards is where I started. My mas speed long line is 39-40 and it feels really fast.

Went out tonight and had some additional success. This is the only run on video but the ones that followed I was a bit more vertical, arms out straight and rode it about 2x the distance. Managed to get up and ski 4-6 away before daylight was gone.

Greg, nice work!

I agree with HW- driving is a lot better than before but still isn't doing you many favors. Looks pretty fast once you're up... Looks more like low to mid 30's than 27 (inaccurate speedos?) but whatever it is, slowing it down several mph will give you a lot more control and the falls won't hurt as bad. Are you wearing a neck brace?

Plane/plant speed looks good, but as soon as your toes touch the water, he's yanking you onto your feet. Slowing his progression and rate of acceleration would allow you to be more methodical in your movements, improving the learning experience and avoiding the formation of bad habits. That'll be key when it comes time to do it on your feet, and again when you start trying llbd's. Have him bring you from plant to skiing speed over a ~5 second period instead of the quick yank (2-3sec) he's doing now.
