Hi guys..
After a long time out of water for complete restoration of the biat finally got the boat in the water today... All went pretty well exept for carb and trans.... When engaging in gear there is A ratteling noise comming from the trans.. We thought it was alignment but removed the shaft from the trans and it still rattles so any sugestions? |

Probably the damper plate. Might have a spring bouncing around in the bell housing.

Definitely a damper plate. They can also rattle a little bit if you have the idle RPM a bit low.
If it hasn't been replaced I would definitely do that. |

Just pulled the trans damper seems fine springs look intact.. damper was replaced a few
years back if not mistaken when we rebuilt the trans.. can't figure out how to post pic via my phone |

Did you change props? More blade surface area can create more noise at idle. Any difference in forward or reverse amount of noise?

The damper looks good to me. If you just replaced a couple years ago, I would have to say it's probably OK then.
What's your idle RPM? I would just turn it up a tad and any rattle should go away. |

idle rpm or if you have a plug wire switched around or something else to make it idle rough.

It more in reverse still hear it in forward but not as loud
idle is around 800 drops to 600 prop is a "new" orgininal prop bought from a member here.. putting it back togheter tonight and heading out tommorow again chek idle and take a mechanic woth us to see if its something to worry about Thanks guys |

Idle is 800 and drops to 600? That doesn't sound right. 650 dropping to 600 would be more normal. Idle should be about 650 in gear. 50 RPM can make a huge difference between rattle and no rattle.

Gonna double chek idle rpm tommorow also and try raising it a bit... We do have problem with carb so maybe thats causing it to go to low.. New carb should be on its way soon
