Airguide Speedo Question

Combination of both Jim..... Air in the line is forced into the gage moving the needle under the pressure applied to it from water being forced into the pitot (pickup).

Airguide made a variety of Nautical items. Compasses, barometers, hygrometers etc. The first Airguide I ever remember was the compass in my dads old 71 PU attached to the windshield.

So my original message was a bit longer and more detailed and when I tried to post it, the forum decided to crap out and erase it. Since I'm still not completely clear on the issue I'll include a few more details.
When I first launched the boat this year I had one dead speedo and soon discovered (another) water leak. When I finally started digging into it I turned out to be the easiest thing I’ve ever fixed on Big Jim. Once I pulled the rear floor up I discovered my wonderful repair shop forgot to reconnect the speedo line, which for some unknown reason isn’t one hose (from Pitot to speedo) and instead is two, connected together with a little nipple connector. This was apart and leaking a steady stream of water into the boat. Now that this is reconnected the line is full of water and in the interest of protecting my speedo, I disconnected it from the speedo end thinking I didn’t want it to fill with water. From what I’m reading it appears as if I need to pull the boat from the water, drain the water from the speedo hose, reconnect it and then relaunch the boat. Sounds right?

water in the line isn't a problem. You can blow the line clear as described bellow. Also, carry a tiny drill bit to clear out the little pin hole in pick up. And enjoy your airguides and the daily issues with them.

There is always the GPS conversion unless you boat on rivers.

When I blow air back out of the line do I need to cap it with my finger quick or connect it back up to the speedo super fast before water starts entering the line again?

Once you blow the air down you are done. No need to cap it or rush.
Hook it back up when you have time. I have always believed you wanted the water pushing on air in the line with no water in the line except for the water pushing into the tube at the back of the boat. Maybe that is not the case.

after you blow the line clear hook it back up. If you drive boat again before you hook it up, then yes water will flow thru tube, if you don't move there will not be any pressure in line and you can hook up without worry of water spraying out.

If you hook perfect pas up and remove a speedo... plug your extra tube or you will get wet toes... lol

Is that your catheter?

I get sand in them all the time. I just have a larger size paper clip I use to poke them out. Working so far and i get scared of pulling off the hose because the little barb ends break pretty easy, i have one ghetto rigged back together already.
Im actually saving my milk money for a set of Gaffrig stainless Pitots but they get pretty spendy.
