1969 Correct Craft Mustang.
i had a question a month or so ago about replacing the cable that is broken somewhere. It appears to be broken in the steering box. With some nervousness I have started to remove the cable.
!. Do I have to open up the steering box behind the steering wheel? I removed the cable nut and pulled the cable shield away and pulled the twisted "plumbers snake like" cable from the steering box. Something tells me that there is more at this end.

2. The rep at Go2Marine wants me to remove the cable, measure or look for the number on the cable to make sure he sends the correct size. The shielded cable appears embedded into foam at the bow. How do I remove without tearing it up?

3. At the stern I removed the cable "stabilizer block" that "sandwiched" the cable about 18" from rudder shaft.

4. There is a horizontal arm that is attached to the stainless steel end of the steering cable with an external spring. It is not clear what I need to remove, beyond the block, to loosen that end of the cable.

i am assuming that the entire 1/2" cable will need to be removed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't make any costly mistakes that will keep the boat in my driveway as opposed to the water!

Thanks for all past and future advice. If you know of a Correct Craft mechanic in the Jacksonville, FL area that may be my safety net.

Your doing fine
1 just pull it out like I believe you did turning the wheel as you go
2 the original cable in mine was a 17' replaced with a 16' as I had already ordered it before removal, you probably will have to cut the cable out of the foam since the foam was put in last after everything was installed in the hull
3 block and tube could have been left in place, just need to disconnect nut at front end of tube
4 pictures help,I'll take one of mine later since gas tank is still out,you may need to buy what Teleflex calls a clevis kit.
