Put a new exhaust manifold gasket on my 86 SN 351 PCM. What is the torque specs for the bolts? I do know it is a good idea to tighten them from the center on out. Thanks!

I don't know but I'd guess 20 and you'll be safe.
Got your anti seize? |

John,
To be sure, I just looked at my machinists handbook. 20 may be on the high side considering the lube (anti seize) and a couple ft. lbs. high if you are using stainless. I'd shoot for 18 to 19. The link above is the chart for dry (no lube) threads. |

I ran a bottoming tap in those and rinsed with light oil. I've had good results with stainless, but it hasn't been 'left alone' for 10 years either. I'm also fortunate to have a real hardware store here. Not all bolts are created equally; even in the same class. Our big boxes don't carry American made HW. Also, a threaded stud(name Pete?) makes for a great 3rd hand. I use 2, but put 'em in the shallow bosses.
It hasn't been taken apart in a while... |

I had to re-read this because what I saw was you were calling Pete a stud. |

A stainless socket head cap screw will have a tensile of 70,000 ether in a 18-8 or 316 material. This tensile is between a grade 2 and a grade 5. Use the torque chart accordingly if you can't find a specific one for stainless.
A "stud"! Well, maybe in my younger days but I was never "threaded"! |

Calling for a low of 27 degrees Halloween night!!! Raw water pump leaking around the shaft, need to rebuild this winter.

Marco and Hassan are having a tour with their teacher David, and Hassan tips the guide a little too much…Tour Guide: If you found my words helpful and interesting, please feel free to leave a few cents or dollars. Thank you.Marco: How much did you tip him, Hassan?Hassan: I gave him a $100 bill.David: Really Hassan, that’s ridiculous! You can’t give someone a $100 tip!Hassan: I’m sorry my teacher. For me, money is rubbish; and what do you do with rubbish? You throw it away.Marco: If you’ve got any more of that sort of rubbish, Hassan, you can always throw it at me.Hassan: Not at you, Marco, you are my friend. |
