Landen Ehlers posted the "Barefooters Motto" at the beginning of one of his youtube videos.

"Life's journey...is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting 'holy crap'....what a ride."

Love that. I guess I particularly like it in my advancing years when non-skiing friends of mine react to me with "what are you....nuts?"

The LLBD is far from the hardest BF trick in the book, but it is a huge milestone and in my mind one of the coolest looking moves in the sport. It looks like the skier is the phoenix rising out of the ashes.

Use a cup...some of the reason people rush llbd is no cup...that's also not helping the teeth...with a cup you can plane on the cup painlessly...smoothly...no panic...patiently..ride the cup

So I asked "the question" the other day @ physical therapy and the answer was a rather direct 6 weeks minimum and perhaps if all goes well not more than 9.

Guess I should have started down this path earlier in life....

Back when we had no clue and a slalom rope/kneeboard we drank a lot of water and had a lot of sore necks. The only person that was successful that way out of about 5 was my cousin. Don't know if he was just more stupid or we were wusses.

Non stretch line is where it's at.

I stole JoeinNy's idea about taking a break from drinking to get in shape for ski season a few years ago, I call it my mid winter party break and it happens to be in session now. Well a couple of girls I run with have been calling me their pregnant girlfriend for the last few weeks because I've been DD-ing. This particular night I decided it was better for me to get a ticket for driving down a road that was closed than for her to get picked up for public intox and possession, so I got home a little later than I planned. Then I was pissed off and couldn't sleep so I was doing a little ccfan reading... Typical Sunday night, haha

"Greg Fossett, C'mon down. You've been selected to be the next contestant(victim) on the Price is Right".

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

I just read an article in a training & development magazine that reminded me of my barefooting.

The article was on the importance of reflection. No, not calm water. They start by explaining how we learn externally as well as internally. Learn by doing, that's obvious. But, don't miss the opportunity to learn by watching, listening, reflecting. This must be what winter is for: watching videos and looking at pictures.

I struggled with the llbd. Shortline was cake. It wasn't until one winter with backfoot100 that I really learned what was preventing me from getting up. My plant was REMOVEo-wide. I couldn't progress until I got narrower. All winter that's all I thought about and I hit my first one in spring.

So, before you hit the water go back over where you've been, what you've done, and what you need to do different to achieve your goals. This thread can take you there.

I completely agree. Using Video analysis (and the posting here, and getting feedback) was absolutely critical to me learning ALL phases of my barefooting. When you are out on the water, you are SO over stimulated with sensory input, it is impossible to really understand and adapt to what is changing on the water. So many times, I would be out there and just floundering, I'd post the videos, here, get feedback and then mentally practice (3 point, knees together, knees together, knees together, knees together...) and when I would get back on the water, I would have instant success.

I've been kinda thinking the same thing past two days. I've hit a wall with slalom and thinking I'd learn most right now from watching and being watched by skiers at a level just above me. I've tried watching videos of me but it was kinda like watching a really bad, low budget, independent film with a first time actor.

Just a comment...of a thing I've observed a few times...as barefooters are learning they have some fairly frustrating days...it seems like nothing is being learned...however there is learning going on...maybe just learning what does NOT work...I've noticed that after these days go by some big gains follow

One thing frustrating about trying to learn from videos is that they make it look awfully easy. You watch an ADV video (independent of your opinion of him) and his feet slide around like he's going 120 MPH on ice. When I get out there, and envision a move in my mind, I suddenly face the reality that my feet feel like they are slogging through a foot of mud and I am going 18 MPH.

So Last fall I was 270 - so if ADV is a big dude at over 200, do I qualify for the Clydesdale Club?
