I'm replacing my cutlass bearing on my '82 SN, after I bought a new one from DBYS. It looks like people recommend taking a coping saw to the old one and curl the edge up to remove it.

Do I have to remove these set screws first before removing? I can't tell what type of head screws these are.

I can push my new bearing up to the old one by hand, is it supposed to be a press fit in the strut?

Sometimes you can push the new bearings in by hand if you have had them in the freezer. If not it shouldn't be pushed in. What is the outside diameter spec on the new bearing?

OD measures 1.2520". There's only .44" for me to push it in because I haven't removed the old one yet. So maybe it's easy enough because I'm only pushing in a small surface area?

Get the old one out and see where you are at.

Thanks for the help. I was really confused about the screw type, I thought they were some odd torx bit, until I took a pick to the head and found it was just hardened dirt that's been lodged in there for years.

Ha yeah, they don't take kindly to incorrect sizes either. The metal is soft and the strip really easily.
