Trying to remember, did you have a chance to test a 422 or it's 3-blade equal?? You got me thinking the other day, I have that brand new 422 + the OE 422 on the 206 now, if it looks like you are buying new maybe we could do a swap of my unused spare for a 3-Blade.
What does Timmy think?? |

Steve loaned me his spare 422 to try on the 176 last year. I never tried the 3 blade equivalent of the 422.
The 3 blade that was on my boat is that OJ 14 16. HW....I remember you saying you had some props last year. Whacha got? CQ, ill let you know if I end up buying a new one. |

I think the closes 3 blade to the 422 is the 1442. Chris, that is what is on my sport now. If you want to try it, go pull it and give it a run...
But as always, I will defer to Tim! |

There's no 422 "equivalent" in a 3-blade... They're all 1/2" short on pitch and will spin 200rpm higher. That's good when you can use the extra rpm (like in a larger Sport). 206 may benefit too, depends what rpm you're seeing at wot, 4900 or more and I'd stick with the 422 unless you're looking to add a little holeshot.
Same goes for the 196, but most HO fords and excals do well with the 422. |

Tim my 531 is non-HO heads.
Before I buy, is the 422 still the best option? |

If you had a 19'6" SN, I'd say go 3-blade... Not as much 176 data to compare to. Didn't you test a 422 and get some speed/rpm data back?

With the 422, 30 degree advance, and carb tuned, I yeilded 43mph @ 4100 rpm. I was pretty happy with those results. |

In that case, go with the 470.

Thanks for clearing that up Timmy, so the 3 Blade 470 performs nearly identical to the 4 Blade 422 however are not counterparts as a 4b vs 3b
Once we have ice out and docks in we should plan a prop data testing day for the 206, 176 and the Sport over at my place. 422 vs 470 vs 1442, looking at performance as well as wake/table changes. HW, lets talk about a swap for your 470 if Chris is not interested in it. |

I'm not swapping, I'm selling.
The 1442 is a 13.25" diameter. The increased size over those 12.5s acts as additional pitch. |

The extra diam of the 1442 probably does cut back revs slightly but it also has less cup than the 470 (.090 vs .110) so I've seen the same 200rpm difference with both (compared to the 422).
Performance of the 3-blades (1442, 470) is NOT identical, see the aforementioned 200rpm delta due to the 1/2" pitch difference. If he was turning 4100rpm at WOT, I'd welcome an extra 200rpm, but 4600rpm is the sweet spot on a non-HO 351w. |

I just sent my 422 to american propeller repair; after that, I'll have it for sale. PM me if you're interested. I'm a returning customer at APR, and they do high quality work.
