Had a great outing with Greg. He had a successful start. I had some of my best short line runs ever. Short line starts haven't been a big problem for me, but solid runs for me have been. Taking Hollywood's and Lane Bower's advice, we slowed it down a bit (32) and Greg gave me some pointers on form that made me much more solid, making for longer runs. Despite hitting a few LLBDs last summer, I was 0 for 5 or 6 Saturday morning, even donning the shoes for the last try or two. Looking forward to more sessions with Greg. We're just about at the same spot working for the same things. Makes for great training, unlike any opportunities since leaving Houston in the late 80s.

me too Larry...all day long on the boom...trouble with LLBD. Only one that I have hit this year is when I was using Eddie's drysuit. Lots of xtra bouyancy! So I am back on the boom..slowing it down..remembering all the steps.
great for you & Greg to be able to ski together. Without Eddie I wouldn't be doin' anything. john |

LLBD starts must have something to do with planet alignment! I tried yesterday and failed as well. Next time!

We were back out yesterday and I got a few long line runs in but the water was :-(
Jet ski's, tuber's and wakesurfers saw the slalom course in the cove (we run next to it since it has decent water most of the time) as an obstacle course for them :-( We should try to get the GA/NC footing crew together one of these weekend'! At least I could learn something and have fun with ccf buds |

I don't wana sound whimpy and I foot despit the bruise (thinking the body will adapt) but is there a way to avoid brusing the inside of ones sole?
Or am I digging in my heel too much and should try to work on flatter feet? Will try to post a vide at some point in time but I'm sure I can get help here |

To some extent if you are doing a TON of footing that is just conditioning. But to a greater extent it is probably indicative of "plowing." So not only is the flat foot important, but getting in a proper standing position is important also. Lane Bower has a ton of free video on the correct foot position (I noticed I am doing the "flex" instinctively as I type - don't lift your toes, but flex your ankle drawing the whole front of your foot closer to your shins) and power glide (meat hook, shoulder roll).

Steve, I think the arching might be the ticket
If I think of my stance and what I try to do is 90/90/90 but I do not arche the foot Will be back at WBC for a full day next week during a "work" trip |

Ok, just so we are on the same page you do NOT want to arch your foot, keep toes and arch relaxed, flex at the ankle. Pull the front of your foot (notice I did not say toes, if you pull your toes, you will arch your foot and that is what you do not want) towards your shin. When I first started doing it, I actually had to concentrate on crunching my toes, almost curling them down.

Conditioning, foot shape and size, speed, positioning all play a roll in bruising. Even after all that some people bruise easily some don't.

I know I still try to get the toes up and will work on this!
As well as more time footing for conditioning. I'm happy my wife is willing to pull me so far so I'll get more time in for sure How about a CCF footing clinic? |

Oh, man I would totally be up for a footing clinic. Since I can't ski anymore I would be happy to come and teach/drive, finding a date would be a challenge but that would be cool.. Best would be a weekday, better water, etc. Throw some dates out, lets see if we can get any interest. Pretty sure I could get Frankenotter to go.

Greg, that's some good backwards skiing. Andy always told be to take the pull you get. Sometimes my wife drowns me on a slow backwards pull, other times she hammers it. I grumble, but keep it to myself. Last thing I want to do is lose my driver. My only suggestion is to get your head up and chest out. Tough with the neck brace. Pinch the shoulders together slightly and avoid that hunched over look. You will glide better/plough less.

Yep if your driver backed off the throttle a little and looked to level out at 32 or 33 you will ride those out but do cock your feet towards your shins to smooth the plant and plane

Keep going through the steps in your head. Takes time to get comfortable out there where you can do what you want to do rather than instincts taking over.

So after my graduation I treated myself and the Mrs to a short break in Orlando while my mom watched the little one.
1st day we went to Universal, where I was happy to meet my hero the Duffman But the Universal took a bad turn 2nd day we went to the WBC and I'm very proude to report that my wife tried footing! First on the seahorse then of the boom... https://youtu.be/BEaemssoCGg While she told me she will never be a footer (that wish died about 40 sec into the video), she learned a lot re driving and seeing little things I do wrong (and big ones), which will be a great help while on our lake! I started of with the usuall one foots on the boom, short line and same without shoeskies. I keept hearing Steve, in my mind "don't point the toes, flex the ankel" which transalted to some nasty faceplants initially as I flexed the ankle but curled the toes hahahah my left arm is litteraly blue from that (video might get posted at the WBC youtube channel). But then I got comfortable with the flex and relaxed the toes and all went smooth. Besides tumble turns, I worked a lot on long line cheeck out and runs (Adam, guess you will keep the title of bud ride king/could not resist, sorry). This will help on our lake/boat since the short line puts me in the spray and that way I can fool around on the long line... Great folks at WBC and in the PM session rode with Jackson (12 years old), who last weekend scored 7200 points in tricks! Great kid, polite, friendly, down to earth and fun! https://youtu.be/ep2tFA1EYT8 Still haven't figured out how to embed video's |

A quick trip back out this morning with Kristin and Carl. All geared up, ready to go, good water GoPro set up and ready.....Kristin, give me a minute to go over the steps in my head and I will be ready to go so be ready to the GoPro. Yup I am ready - hi the button and lets do this thing.
Away we go, plant and wait.............plane and wait for it........stripper but engaged - wait for it......bring feet together and let the boat pull your shamooo sized keister out of the water, you up slowly straighten up and bring the legs together and try to pinch the shoulder blades. We are skiing away at 35 and this is feeling real good, going, going still feeling good feet starting to heat up time to be thinking and preparing for the dismount, lean away and let go. Man this was the best run yet. I am now at home and go to view the video only to find that I had the MF in picture mode! Will have to wait until tonight when Carl uploads the video he shot with his phone - hope it is a good as what the run felt like. All I have to share now is the above thoughts and picture below that Kristin took while driving. Comparing pictures I can see improvement.......[/IMG] |
