anyone here have experience with ame 5000? Looking for mixing ration for resin and also with thickened resin with cabosil.

Like any resin system, the ratio of filler is determined pretty much by what you are doing with it. Why aren't you using a generic resin? |

I got all my materials from a boat manufacturer in the area, their cost. you would cry if i divulged what i paid for the resin, glass and coosa.
Got all the sutuff last night, coosa turned out to be bluewater 26 x 3/4 4 sheets and glass is stitched heavy mat and 10 gallons of ame 5000. THe activator is likely 1%, want slow cure so will not add any more than that. (my source did not have mixing instructions but is going to ask) |

Correction its AME 6000.
found out the mix. said for half gal of resin use 20 to 25cc activator. likely use 20cc , error on light side to prevent kicking too fast. |

I would think a resin manufacturer would want their customer, a boat manufacturer, to know how to use a product they sell.

You need to be careful with epoxies,unlike polyesters where you can force drying times by adding hardner. This is off US Composits web site-
Can I put in more hardener to speed up the dry time? No, our epoxy systems are formulated to react at certain ratios of resin and hardener. Deviation of only a few percent in your mixing ratio can result in uncured epoxy. Don't know if yours is the same but you need to find out for sure. Maybe try some out before you really get into it. |

There is always an ideal amount of activator/hardener needed to kick the resin. You can use different activators for different temps/cure times. Not sure if boat resins get into any 3 part systems with catalysts.

its not epoxy, its vinylester which is derived from epoxy. however it uses same activator as polyester. there is a range for the activator %
normally its .5% to 1.5% |
