Great link. It's always best to consult the experts. I can't think of a better group that knows more about the activity. They sure know what they are doing especially the ones with the 80K + boats. |

Yup, now that you have been spending time down south, it's cooled rather than heated seats!! Speaking of old retired bell system employees with the south VS: north jokes, where's John been? |

I vote for the air chair as well. Have never done it but seen it often. X AirFoils does their testing on my lake with some real fancy spork-bow boats.. In fact, TX Foil head had said these guys are some of the very best in the whole world. Not saying you should do the crazy awesome flips and stuff they do, but done in moderation, it looks to provide a gentle fun ride.
Also would be the exact polar opposite from tubing on the cool scale. |

Larry, Reporting again from "down under", I regret to say I didn't make it past the try outs. The ones who did make it were around 200 lbs, most on Super Screamers and being pulled by Mastercrafts or G23's! |

Since we are talking about tubes, did anyone try a tube to barefoot step off over the wake?

Come on Justin. Read more carefully. He's 50, says he's been messing around boats for most of his life, so lets say 40 years. That makes it 1975 that he started messing around boats. You were born in 2001-ish. So I would say that means he has been messing around with boats since before you were born, no? |

Well, Steve. Welcome to CCF. Trial by fire. But you are a good sport and that will go a long ways around here. Did you really get your answer? Hope so. As a rule I don't do tubing. Until a year or so ago, I had never bought one and I've been doing this longer than you (I've got 10 years on you). My wife spotted one at a garage sale a year or two ago for $5 so I said sure, why not. It was one of those 2 man, lay down on top kind. I never noticed that a regular 1 man tube had a weight restriction so I would guess one of those flat 2 mans would be fine for you. We rode ours 1 or 2 folks all the time. I actually prefer the donut kind, reminds my of my growing up days, before 3/4s of the overtons catalogue was tubes and we used a real truck tire tube, the kind with the long valve stem that you could impale yourself on and the kind that you just tied the rope around and it would pinch down to the diameter of a pencil and stretch out about 15 feet before you planed off. I liked sitting with my butt in the middle, vs how most people lie down on them today. So that's why I prefer the donut ones vs the flat ones. |

I have a confession to make. I've tubed. As a kid... Pre teens..... Young..... Hormones raging...... Girls bouncing around in a bathing suit.... Begging for one of them to fall and get dragged. Maybe a bounce or two landing in their personal flotation devices. Oh yeah, I've def logged some time on a tube. Solo? Never. And even once or twice as an adult, doing about 40 mph on a short line, if you stay on more than 20 seconds you aren't doing it right. When executed properly it should make bare footing feel as easy as knee boarding.
Y'all remember that tube about ten years ago who's objective and design was to go airborne and stay? That thing killed a few people. I forget the name and details... You had some cojones to ride that. |

I have no problem with tubers as long as they STAY OUT OF THE SKI COVES AND FLAT WATER. Doing power turns and S turns may be fun for your rider but its ruins the water for everybody else. If you are going to tube have a little respect for others and do it in the main channel. Note the wake surfers could take the same advice . It simply amazes me that the same peeps that have been bitching for years about waverunners and tubers now think its perfectly fine to wakesurf all the way to the back of the ski cove.

..... My message was a joke, since a lot of people on the site know I'm 14 besides him. So he didn't know that really he's been around boats longer than my dad. But hey, who cares? |

Thanks! Gotta have a good sense of humor! I knew this thread would get some going! We're big skiiers (not just in size!) and my youngest is really getting into wakeboarding now! But a tube is fun and we never will mess up nice water for those that are skiing. |

I knew you were joking! No problem. Yes, I have kids older than you! haha I am 50, still feel 15 sometimes (not so much at other times) and still playing with RC planes, drones and boats. My dad (83 now) retired from the Coast Guard after 35 years and was the CO of the Port of Houston. We had boats before I was born (a wooden Chris Craft that I wish I had now!) and I grew up with a Wellcraft that I was towing around Texas at 16. My dad bought a brand new Ski Nautique in 1983 before I left for college at the University of Texas at Austin. We kept the boat there and I often scheduled my classes so I could be on the lake by noon or so. I skied with the UT ski team, some of my friends actually quit school when Sea World in San Antonio opened to go ski professionally there. I visited once and saw a girl I skied with on the top of a pyramid! haha I was sold on Nautiques and later bought my own and kept it for years. Sold it when the economy tanked and now back in it! I was gone too long! So no issues with having fun with me. I can take it! :) |
