Just got back from NYC yesterday after spending 3 days there for a bit of a birthday celebration. I dunno the city was great; fun and all, lots to do. But, having been to Chicago at least a dozen times over the years I'd have to say NYC just came off to me as a Bigger, Dirtier, Smellier, Chicago. I don't mean this to put down NYC & i dont want to piss anyone off, but i just wanted to throw my experiences out there & see what everyone else's thoughts might be.

I agree with you, and I've never even been to NYC.

What did you think about the people?

haha PLBC, like i said, not trying to offend anyone, just putting MY thought on the city out there. Hollywood, honestly the people weren't bad at all, of course everyone's into themselves a little too into themselves for me, like me catching/ holding doors for people (a common courtesy to me) i never got a thanks or even a smile.. ehh i dunno, I'll just stick to my small town and my lake. haha

I can honestly say that visiting both cities countless times, while they are major cities, they are not really comparable.. Not at all..

Nate, you should have seen NYC many years ago, it looks much better than it used too.

Grew up here in the Burbs of Chicago, which is a great city, family has a Cottage in Connecticut on Candlewood and usually make our way to NYC whenever back East.

Like Mojo said, not really comparable.

Yeah I guess they aren't really comparable, but since Chicago is the only other "big City" Ive ever been to, i figured i'd give it a try.

wow... so many things running through my mind...

i'll just grab my "popcorn" too i guess and sit back and watch how wrong you guys are about the city.... i continue to be amazed how someone from the middle of nowhere (thats my response to you guys saying the city has too many people) visits the city for less than a week, doesn't seem to spend any reasonable amount of time getting out around town, preferably with someone who lives there, and claims that the city where more people choose to live than anywhere else, is worse than another city...

you dont see me saying my "honest" opinion about where you guys live... and trust me there's a lot to say... I've never been to wherever hollywood takes his sh*ts but I can tell you that he's more pompous than any new yorker i've ever met...

well its been nice knowing you guys i'll write my will now...

So you're "wrong" just because you prefer something else? Unless you live in NYC you're in the middle of nowhere?

hollywood, understand my posts correctly for once... You either:

a) couldn't comprehend what I meant by saying "(thats my response to you guys saying the city has too many people)" - as in it was not serious--it being "in response" to you guys saying there "too many" people in the city is like me saying where you guys are "from the middle of nowhere"--they're equivalent.

or

b) understood what I was getting at, but just re-worded it to try to change my thoughts and words

Both are pathetic and unnacptable. You still are ruder than any NYer

P.S. I KNOW for a fact you are a straight up ruder person, by definition, b/c more often than not i'm the victem of your attacks...

Well i did go around the city with someone who's lived there for the last 5 years after moving there from where i live and she absolutely loves it, and knows tons of places to go. But to me, it just wasnt me, im not a big city person, but like i said previously... "My Opinion" The fact of the matter is i could give two sh*ts about what someone thinks of my "middle of nowhere" city, and you shouldn't care either as long as you like it there.

Nate, thats totally cool.. I dig the fact that you took the time to go around with someone who loves the city, and you at least gave it a shot to try to apprecaite it... sorry if it sounded like I was talking to YOU, it was more the general 'you' and others here who seem to be very prejudgmental... I love the city, can't image living anywhere else, and dont understand how you guys do it. Also, I respect your opinions and also respect how you guys probably feel exactly the opposite--how the hell can this guy live with all these people around?

I was flying back from somewhere once, can't remember where, sitting next to this "nice" old couple from North Carolina... We had the normal "where are you from" conversations. I said I had never been to NC but I hear its nice. However, once I said where i was from, they quickly turned their heads and just blaintly said "I dont like New York City." Thoughts in my mind: You dont have to like the city, i dont have to like anywhere else, you have to like where you live, otherwise you've made 1 too many stupid decisions... The thing with that got me with this couple was that this comment was totally uncalled for and served no purpose than to share their disgust with the place I love. I did not respond with, "I don't like civil war losers". I dont give a sh*t whether you (the plane couple) like my city or not, but if have nothing nice to say about it, shut the hell up...

I really don't mind your personal opinion, that stuff is always good. I just ask that everyone give every place a fair chance--not judge before you've set foot there. Not everyone's made for the city. I sure as hell am not made for anywhere else... :)

Have Hollywood and yourself met in person before ?

From what I can tell from this site and what others say about him, he is a friendly and pleasant person, who excels in Babes, Beer, Boats and Barefootin'.

Sounds like the kind of guy who would be a good friend to hang out with !!

Diga,

Have you ever skied the East River? I have skied the Cal Sag Channel here in Chicago which is exactly where some of Hollywood's and the rest of our crap ends up, very much like the East River for you guy's. BTW, it was the only time I can say instead of buoys I was skiing around tossed boulders from the overpa$$.

NYC is a great place, perhaps more so to one person than another, same as the middle of nowhere.

I lived in Indiana when I was a teen (on a farm) I have great memories of that time. I wouldn't live there now, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything! Same with Texas and Florida. We Live in Ohio now (where I was born)..love it here. My wife Is from Long Island, but spent alot of time in NYC. Before I met her, I never wanted to go to NYC. Now..after visiting a few times, I know why people love it so much. It's a great city! And we live in the greatest country in the world!

I'm from a small town in NC and just returned from NYC last week. Took my wife to see the nutcracker ballet at Lincoln center. We had a blast. The people were very nice, I just found they dont initiate conversation with strangers much. Can't say as I blame them. I had no problem getting directions when I needed them or just general information. I was there 3 years ago with my church on a mission trip with the teenagers and again there were no problems. People were nice and were even receptive to what we had to share with them. Matter of fact there are plenty of jerks down here in the south, I guess we are just used to them. I liked the city, wouldn't want to live there though. Too much traffic. I'm fond of gra$$ too. But I will definitly visit more. Guess it boils down to, they are just people like the rest of us.

Being a born and raised MidWesterner who happens to be currently visiting family in NYC right now I can say that there are things going for both locales. I wouldn't think of giving up my childhood in W.Mi, but there is also something very attractive about city life. I will say that for a large city Chicago is exceptionally clean (at least around the Mag Mile). One thing that is especially nice about a large city is that if you aren't a WASP you don't feel like you are alone.

83, scott... thanks.. its nice to see some positive thoughts from other places...

quinner... there is no chance I would ski in the east river, for way too many reasons to list... first off, extremely dangerous current--people die in there all the time. Its somewhat narrow also for the current it has, and also I'm not big on being overtaken by huge barges and crains... My dad went in it with the '82 SN 2001 years ago for some special fireworks show for the brooklyn bridge. He said it was cool, but these boats are WAY too small for that. On the other hand, I WOULD consider going in the hudson, esp. up north (or "uptown" as we call it). Its cleaner, wider, nicer, less current, less rat sh*t, etc...

BTW... i should let you guys know something... i'm fortunate to have my grandparents' house "upstate," just about an hr north of the city. Its pretty close to the lake we go to (the boat and the city dont mix well), so we spend a lot of time up there in the summer, adn most weekends throughout the year. I have to say, there are some times when I don't know what life would be like without my grandparents there and that house. Its literally "in the middle of nowhere" as in they have no neighbors, just empty state park land. Its so remote I cannot see the road from the top of the hill (the house is on a hill). And as a matter of fact, it USED to be a farm... I get the best of both worlds--I'm very lucky. This place balances me out, and just like I cannot imagine living anywhere but nyc, I cannot imagine living in nyc w/o this place out of the city... I'm in trouble...

All I can say is anyone who thinks Hollywood is rude or unpleasant has not meet him in person.

We may dis-agree but lets not let it get personal. At least meet the guy before you judge him.

Usually I stay off these posts. Abu, you seem to be quite sensitive at times. But I couldn't let you "dis" Hollywood.

Nuff said. I am gone from these posts again.
