Huge thanks goes out to Brian (BKhallpass) in going out and sending me solid info on the new addition to the fleet. I found this one on Craigslist in California. Wife laughed as she walked by. Asked some questions and found Brian knew where this boat was. Went out and did a nice field inspection for me. Bought it and set out getting it home ? A whole new experience as I am normally a hop in the truck and go get it type. I figured I would give Uship a try hoping not to get the people who they have on the TV show. Found a very nice guy who pulled it on the long trip for me snapping shots along the way. 83 with 409 hours from original owner. Now we can dig into the Show restoration and not be boatless.

Trailer needs some lovin !

Did I mention Chevy Powered ?

For now they are all packed into the garage until I can sort it out...

Thanks Brian !

Congrats on the new ride! Looks to be in decent shape. Are the on water pics from the seller or at your place?

The first one Is my pic the second was in the CL ad. Took it out today and managed to ding up my spare 540 ! A totally different ride than the 80. Family likes it better with the bimini so more water time for all of us. I applied at the local yacht club where they have roller storage so I can get it off that lovely trailer and do some work. The PO welded the prop guard in place so the 540 does not clear at the height he welded it at. A few things to do but overall very satisfied with the new toy.

Terry....Great looking boat! Congrats on the new toy! I have always wondered how the earlier SN's handled vs. the 2001's. What are the key differences? More or less nimble? Better ride quality?

Dave, there is a lot of difference in the 2 hulls. The 80 is like a Go Kart compared to the 83. I am sure I can get used to it but that is what caused my Prop issue today. Does not turn as quick and feels kind of Heavy at slower speeds compared to the 80. With that being said it is a Whole lot more Stable and takes the chop much better with the 3 step hull. Growing up I was always lovin the Gray combos so this one fits right in. I need a Barefoot now !

I assume I'm looking at a 350 in the '83? Curious how noticable the power difference is compared to the 454 in the '80.

Huge! Like going from a Chevelle to a Chevette ! 260 HP in the 83 with more weight and draft makes for a lot less get up and go. Fuel on the other hand is a lot nicer in the 83 as well as comfort. I am figuring the 80 will be the Guys out for some skiing and the 83 will be family time. I have been out 6 times in the 83 and every time I miss the all out grunt of the 80. I am preparing to do my glass order for an all out stinger job on the 80 so the 83 will be it for a while.

I would think the 2 boats weigh nearly the same once you factor in the extra weight of the 454, maybe 150 lbs. more than a 350? It must be the hull shape/beam/draft that make the boats feel so different.

I'm curious about the slalom wake difference in the 2 boats. My impression was that the 2001 hull was a big leap in wake quality, curious if you had a chance to compare.

Terry.....I guess everything is relative. My only point of reference is my old Southwind (RIP). It handled like a John Deere 4020 pulling a 5 bottom plow. I drove Dave's (OverMyHead's) '87 2001 at GL this year, and to me, it handled like a go cart. Would love to drive a pre-2001 model at some point to get a feel for how they handle.

By the way, what lake do you run on in Madison? I love staying at, and having lunch or dinner on the back patio at the Edgewater Hotel in Mad-town which is right on the edge of the water of Lake Mendota.

Not, perfect, but it was a pretty good starting point for a 30 year old boat. It will be close to perfect when Terry is done. BKH
