Well my entire body hurts, but i can finally check off barefooting in my bag of tricks.
Truth is; i tried multiple times to do it without much success.and have read a LOT on here and watched every video on youtube and studied it so i would know what to do. But the trip down to Zoar mini last weekend, and getting a chance to pull a few people and having a seat in Tim's boat for a while is what helped me the most. Seeing it done in person teaches me more than any youtube video.
First pull of the day i planted and got up but i think i did what every excited new footer does is stand up to high to fast. i got progressively better at my body position after that.
I tried off the 5' line but i think i'm going to give that a go next weekend once i've gained my strength back.
I also pulled a friend of mine who i was impressed with, seeing as though he had never even thought about footing once, till he got on the boat and watched it done. We figured out he has some kind of tendon issue with his left foot he never even knew about. you can see it in the video.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed any info or instructions on this subject. glad to finally get up and join in the fun.
I ordered some parts, going to make a boom adjuster because the lowest i could get my boom with the current setup was not ideal.
made a little video of our pain.

After you plant you look good, then observe your shoulders slowly roll forward and hips slide back till you hit the tipping point, or where you do a feet-to-face we call it.
Shoulder back, chest out, hips up, lots of knees. try it on the dock with a handle on a firm anchor point.

I have been reading through the forum for a while as well. Last year was my first year on the boom. Bought a used suit over the winter and my goal for this year was deepwater starts longline. Was able to do it early this summer but finally got some pics this weekend. Learned a lot here and also watching videos of Lane Bowers and others.

Tony, when ya'll tried the short line around the 2 min mark in the video you (or your bud) plant too fast and have the legs too straight out.
Bring them down slow, knees together and bent, flexed ankles, heels as close to the butt as possible and take your time.
You can buttride the 3 point for a while at 25mph to get a feeling and once your solid, increase the speed and stand up.

Thanks, i will try that. When i was on the short line i was a little spent for energy, the issue i felt was that i couldnt get myself situated in a three point, or steady, i will try ait at slower speed next time and take a littlw more time like you said. Maybe that was the issue was the speed.

I'm about to board my flight to Europe and had some time to think about this barefooting virus I caught.
Last year this time, I followed the posts here and thought you guys are nuts...
The while with Kapla, I thought, what the hell, let's try it.
So since that I'm hooked and can't get enough, also because of this site.
I want to thank all of you for your input, pointer and time spent with me these last few month.

I was back out last weekend and had a blast with Jackie, Timbob and Jimbob.
Here my pointers for all newbies (and Adam when it comes to pointer no.1 )
1. Once long line, cheeking out is hard work and I do best by taking the foot of the rope to help me dig in and steer better

2. Be patient (and don't stand up at 32mph or be prepared to eat tons of water as the boat accelerates to BF speed...)

3. Enjoy every second footing with friends.

Oh and bring Timbob for if you want cool pics and thank for the help!

Great pictures and I am sorry to say......that particular virus you now have......never goes away and there is no known cure. It reminds me of the CCFAN virus.

Next up - 1 foots and backwards deepwater starts. Both are fairly "easy" once you have mastered going forward. Best barefooting technique to learn is the "Tuck and Roll". Water at 38 to 41 mph hurts.....

Yeah, I was going to post up a thread about this but got back home and the next morning had a tree down in the yard. Once I can get my pics downloaded and my yard scheduled to be cleaned up I'll be posting up some stuff.

Needless to say, it was a really cool weekend. Meeting John and Cam was awesome. Even though the water was marginal at best we still managed to get some great video of John so definitely stay tuned. I should be able to get something posted in the next day or two.

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

What a great time..as always...meeting up with new C/CFan friends. The Marco trip was very cool. The wives even had a great time.

Fun to meet baitkiller (John) & son Cam. John surprised us all...himself mostly I think! Couple more tries & Cam will be on his feet as well. Both of them showed me & Eddie some good boarding.

Very different skiing in salt water and with a tide running. Best moment of the day? When the baitkiller assured us that he had the meat tenderizer in case of jellyfish stings..2nd best...when he mentioned that sharks swim thru the cut in which they ski. He assured me that they were 'snuggly' but fortunatly I did not have to find out for sure.

All around...a great roadtrip with my partner & our wives.
