I know this HAS to have been discussed here at some point, but after hours of searching I wasn't able to find it in any CCF forum. I see a lot of conflicting opinions on other forums.
I have a 351W and am replacing the riser gaskets. Do any of you pros use gasket sealant on the graphite riser gasket? If so, what kind? My exhaust manifold and riser mating surfaces are level and smooth and I have graphite gaskets sold by NautiqueParts (item #RM0002). I know that most service manuals do not recommend gasket sealant on the riser gasket but it seems a lot of people use it with good results. Right now I see it as one of those "it couldn't hurt" scenarios as long as you use the right type sealant. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. |

I have used anti seize for years on riser gaskets. it helps prevent rust and makes it much easier to remove the gasket. Anti seize is typically waterproof. I like the copper type.

After spending a good bit of time scraping felt gaskets off my risers & manifolds, the anti-seize really appeals to me. That's the first time I've ever heard of someone using it on riser gaskets...

You know i though i invented the process but turns out the old timers have done if for decades.
It seemed to be simple logic to me. The gaskets are on a water surface and anti seize is high temp and waterproof. On my Hatteras i had Crusader 454's with 4 risers 4 upper elbows and 4 lower elbows. after 5 years on new components there was not one rust stain or any signs of leaks. |

When I did mine a few months ago, I did not use any sealer. I just installed the gaskets. No leaks whatsoever. I did use anti seize on the new hardware though.
