Jarrett,
Check for any leaks in the pitot tubing (the rubber tube from the transom to the dash) and also for any plugged tubing. There also will be pulsation dampers mounted on the inside of the transom behind the fuel tank. They have been known to split from freezing when water gets trapped in them. Do you have any water coming out behind the dash panel? There is a stainless bellows inside the speedo that can also split. |

have not noticed any water leaking from behind dash. just pulled hoses off the back of the speedometers (bellows looked to be in tact) and blew through them to see if I noticed any difference. I was able to blow air through the working speedo hose but not the hose of the speedo that is inop. Suspecting a clog or pinch? may try to use shop air and blow it out?

Jarrett,
The tubing isn't expensive so I suggest replacing it on both speedos. It does dry out like the rubber in a tire. Replacing the tubing will also give you the opportunity to check the dampers on the transom to make sure they are clear of debris too. |

I used regulated shop air and blew through the hose and found some mud clogging it. got all the mud/debris out and trapped water drained. seems to be working o.k. intend on taking the tank out next year so i will replaced tubes then. thanks!!

It's great you found the problem. The pulsation dampers don't need to be replaced but since you found mud in the pitot tubing, there's a good chance there's mud in the dampers as well. Since you've got the regulated air, do pressure test them. if find any leaks, solder a patch or resolder a joint just like you would a copper water pipe. |
