I'm rebuilding my LH 351W. (more details here http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=37691&title=sealed-power-h621p)
The prestolite dist w/ breakerless-conversion was working fine when it came out. I have no reason to think it wouldn't function just fine going back in. However, it is 23 years old, has a fair amount of corrosion, bushing play, etc.. I'm not interested in a HEI. I think my options are; i) Mallory breakerless 675-YL554CV (aka 9 26302) for $400. I assume this is what skidim has listed for Mallory breakerless. I know Mallory makes an optical version, but I can't find it for sale anywhere. ii) Run the existing prestolite. Are there rebuild kits available? I suppose the breakerless conv. negates any concerns about the bushing play. Refresh could be limited to clean-up of mechanical advance. iii) A new old stock points distributor off ebay for ~$70. I don't think I will find an exact P/N match, but I don' think this will be an issue. The existing one does have the extended oil pump shaft nose (EFI version), but I don't think this matters. My priorities would be reliability, idle quality, then cost. Am I missing any options? |

Steve,
Your least expensive option would be to pull your existing apart and re bush it. Bushings are cheap. The only problem you may run into if you don't have one is reaming the bushings. Did someone tell you the play in a breakerless distributor won't affect dwell? To my knowledge, distance with ether capacitive proximity, inductive proximity or optical sensors does affect the on and off triggering point. Here's a link for the one you posted to make it easy for others. |

getting hard to find Module
I know the 'gap' between sensor & rotor (reluctor?) is only .010, so any play in shaft is not a good thing. There is a guy in Minneapolis area that works on these old dizzys, so it can be saved if you want. The DUI is the most cost effective upgrade, if you decide to go that way. |
