We're in SE Texas and plan to use the boat all winter when possible. Some days it's 80, other days it's freezing. On the cold days, we'd like to use a bilge heater to keep our new heads nice and cozy.
Can anyone recommend an inexpensive bilge heater that will do what we need? If that exists! I've never used one before so experiences and use tips appreciated. Thanks |

A drop light with an incandescent bulb would be the cheapest. Go for one of the shatter resistant bulbs.

Awesome idea. Simple--I like it! Cheap--even better!
We keep the boat in covered storage, with a cover on the boat too. Do I put the light inside the bilge and close the engine cover? |

Yes, drop light under the dog house and then closed. Keep in mind that even without the light, it may take 2 to 3 days of continuous below freezing temps before you would even have to worry about damage to the engine. |

Thanks!
Yeah, in Houston it's never much of an issue. Especially since it was 82º on Christmas day. But in 1989 it was 7º and below freezing for 10 days. Yesterday, we had all four seasons in one state! haha This is a good solution just to be safe. |
