Hi, happy 2007 for everyone. I have a '89 Ski Nautique, the engine has arround 1,150 hours and recently I'd noticed that the engine is loosing power, especially when we do the slalom course I can feel how the boat breaks when the skier pulls. What do you suggest me? rebuild the engine?
Thanks for any advice, |

Can you clarify your statement ?? There are lots of things you can check, but don't quite know what you mean yet. |

Sub, a motor that has that kinda hours on the clock will slowly lose power ,and not always because of internal wear, rings, valves, but because the timing chain streches. this not only retards timging but also retards your valve timing as well. Easy test, pull dist. cap, turn your engine over, plugs out, with a breaker bar. when you have taken up the slack, the rotor will move, now reverse rotation, the rotor should move at the same as the crank . the "lagtime" tell you how much slack or stretch is in your chain and gears............ boat dr

Thank you for your answers.
Todicus, what I mean is that when the skier is pulling, tha boat lose power reducing the speed on every pull, its very hard to maintain the speed of the boat while the skier is on the course. boat dr, I'll try what you're telling me, is there any gaskets or something I have to change for better performance? |

the gaskets are not going to help performance wise. To fix the problem if it is a stregthed timing chain is to replace the timing chain then that will correct the valve timing relative to the piston movement.
