Been there done that, Just wait until you are waiting for them to return home and they might be a little late, ughhh.

My daughter is about 9 months driving now, she has done "pretty" well for the most part, she got her first ticket right at the 6 month mark (rolling a stop sign) and backed into a mailbox (barely even a mark) about the same time. That is a good time to put a bit of the fear of God back into them.

I feel your pain, my middle daughter started a month ago. There are a lot of lessons to be learned and taught, the most important part is to remember to keep your patience.

My oldest has been driving for two years and it has been pretty rough. My advice is to make sure the car they drive is a beater. Second is to remember that a lot of times stuff happens that is out of there control. Like Quinner, my daughter got a speeding ticket (yeah, yeah apple, tree, fall not very far...) but upon further review - cop was probably more concerned about her being truant (didn't realize her school was off that day). She has an incident on a snowy road and landed up against a telephone pole - again from everything I can reconstruct, she was being very careful.   And She has gotten really good at backing out of parking spaces into cars that are going by (twice), these are the events I have laid solely at her feet - you HAVE to do better looking where you are going. I have had to nearly bite off my tongue, but we have gotten through it and we have learned a lot of hard lessons.

The responsibility is a huge one, the freedom (for both the parents and the child) are huge - I can't tell you how nice it is to have my daughters driving themselves to activities - they have even figured out how to share the car pretty well. I am hoping daughter #2 has also learned from her sister's incidents, she seems to be a little more careful but only time will tell. In the meantime, enjoy your new found freedoms (or at least not having to cart him to EVERY activity)!

He's actually a pretty good driver...we've let him get a lot of time behind the wheel. Still, he is young, a teenage boy and has a lot to learn.

Yeah, I could see that. I trust my kids a lot more than their friends and the other drivers out there.
