I have a gift card to barefoot central. I wanna buy some shoe skis. I have buddies that have the WBC ones and the barefoot international ones so I will get to try them both but is there a reason I should get one over the other or is it just personal preference.

Have you seen this review.
http://www.barefootcentral.info/shoeskis1.htm Not that its biased or anything, since Chuck is reviewing his own product. Are some of these still on the market? I don't see any shoe skis, on the WBC site any more. Didn't see "puppy paws" as available any more. Scarpa is out of business. By the BI ones, if you are talking about those hard white plastic things, stay away from those. Hard, slick, uncomfortable, no sensation of being on your bare feet. I think that leaves the BFC ones, which seem to be the standard. I think I'd go with those. |

Since you've got a gift card to BFC just go with theirs...chuck redesigned it copying the improvements KSO made to his WBC shoeies...with that said ive run BI, Scarpas, WBC and BFC. William Farrell still swears by his BI shoes hes even got cut downs his toes hang off of. My old BFC shoes wore out pretty quick and have a permanent bend in them...I ski the WBC shoes and can sideslide in them...I really liked scapa big shoes to learn initially then go to cutdowns but scarpas tore and wore out quick too. Id say get the WBC shoes by buying through LakeElmoSports at a discount and drop shipped ...if you didnt have a gift card for BFC. LOL.

Thanks for the info. Bfcentral sells their shoes and the BI plastic ones. So those are my two options. But it sounds like the WBC are the way to go. THnkas |

Don't buy the plastic BI shoes very slick, too slick WBC are the best. Have both and haven't touched the BI in years.

I will buy those then. I have a buddy that has the plastic ones so if I feel that they would help to learn something specific I can always borrow them.

For sure. Was he wearing a single trainer/shoe for a few runs in the middle of the vid (practicing surface turns)? Can't say I've seen that before.

Probably depends on foot size too... Might need to get the weight under 160 for 39-40mph 1-foots.
Otherwise, time to add more power! I assume you're already propped correctly. |

Nope not propped correctly. Thats on the radar next after I am sure that boat runs well and does not need anything else fixed. It does have a 3 blade but its an old one. A new one should add a couple mph. I know its doable but I guess the only tip is get your weight forward.

Ah, yes- prop selection will be critical. You may have a substantial mismatch at your elevation. Going to a modern prop that matches your use will likely wake the boat up significantly. Post more info when the time comes (prop, rpm, speed, etc).
Not sure what you mean by "doable". Even with perfect form, there are limitations as to what you can do. You can't cheat physics. I guarantee you that my 200lbs and size 10's won't be doing 1-foots at 39. |

Ive done them not very well and my buddy who is alot better can do them. I just laugh when I see alot of videos on the internet (not the pros) but the amateurs when get the luxury of 45mph and they are doing one foots with their butts almost on the water. Do that here and you will be on your face in a hurry. I slalom ski alot too so I have to get a prop that will still allow for that.

The right prop for footing at altitude would be the same for slalom. Something too large for the engine/hull based on the altitude you're running is hurting performance everywhere. That is likely where you're at now.
Perfect form (not plowing) will allow you to perform 1-foots at the slowest possible speed. That does not guarantee you can or should be able to do them at 39. Like I said, that's a function of weight, foot size, foot shape and form. You can only control form and body weight (to some extent). Probably easier to make your boat faster than to grow a bigger, flatter foot. I can ski slower but prefer no less than 39. 42 can allow for some 1-foots but I'll take 44+ if the boat is capable. |

Yeah new prop is going to be the next thing. Probably what I will get in the spring. What I need is two boats. Get me a outboard and I would be set. |

Meh, I'm not so sure. I skied a Flightcraft with a 200merc this summer and with it set up for footing (trimmed down and weight in the nose), it was pulling footers 43 or so at wot. At altitude, probably no faster than your boat would be if propped correctly. Wake is awesome, of course- but it drives... Like an outboard. Inboards are the norm these days, Sanger DXII is the primary player, but some of the late 90's and 2000's Malibus foot pretty well too. Of course, wake is only critical if you're doing wake crosses or spending a lot of time in the table.

Yeah I figured that. The new sangers are awesome. No matter what you got footing is so much fun.
