"New" Sangers? Haha... That hull is largely unchanged dating back to '88, from what I understand.
No experience with that gen of AS... But modifying an early EFI engine may prove difficult. Remind us how you found CCF? |

I got on all the forums before I bought a boat. 50% of the time I ski behind 3 different nautiques 97-01 is what they are and the other 50% is behind a 93 prostar. I really wanted a nautique or a mastercraft but since slalom is a huge part of what I do the nautiques in my price range are not the best for that. And the mastercrafts were but they were all carbed. I bought my boat for 4500 and its all fiberglass, its efi and its under 1000 hours. It basically is a great boat with not much wrong with it. I love this site though because I love dd boats in general and dont care the brand. The nautiques I ski behind are awesome for slalom.

right a sn200 is the best for slalom if you want the flattest wake but cost is crazy. I foot 95% of the time and i now have a BFN. You learn to do with what you can afford lol

I prefer carb just because simple and easy to work on and not much to go wrong. have seen to many computer problems with the efi boats but just my opinion.

I thought the same thing but at elevation it is hard to get the same performance out of them. Also If I wanted to go up to the mountain lakes in the summer that would be changing 2000 ft. That would mean rejetting. That would be a pain. But at sea level I would be more happy with a carb.

But your completely right for most cases I am a carb person. Its something I understand(for the most part) and can fix and adjust on my own. The efi is beyond me. |

Ha, no doubt. I'd be curious to see how the Bass would do when set up for footing- trim, prop, etc. I would imagine the holeshot might be a little lacking for deeps right now? Haha.

Yes - I will be addressing that issue in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully with a little work on the motor (READ complete teardown/rebuild) and an upgrade to the prop - already in house and at the prop shop - I hope to be able to if not threaten to rip arms off, at least get skiers out of the hole better then the video below... I like to drive it firmly planted on the water. Less wicked.

One foots at 39 or 40? Get on the whip. Youll gain a couple mph. That'll get old quick. Seipel used to do one foot wakes at 39.
Ive got one of those old Sangers... 1990 DX....those old 350's are only 260 horse...so I blew mine up running wfo all the time...installed a 2011 383 Mercruiser Stroker MEFI 350 HP..it plugged right in...I can get 50 and tow a footer 47 no problem. |

What I don't get is why you've given up barefooting, but still ride in that thing?

Not sure what that first part means. And as hard as I try im not seipel. And let me guess that motor was 10k or so thats twice what i bought my boat for. |

Yeah, thats a good question, but the reality is, the potential for a fall is significantly greater skiing at 40 mph, then riding at 70. Truth be told, I really only run that thing at the hairy edge when the water conditions are the same as for good footing. It is actually VERY stable up to about 65mph, but after that it is not... |

"stable" as in if you're lucky enough to be a passenger in a seat you might stay there otherwise find something to hold on to and don't bother trying drink a beer until you get parked.

While you'd still have to deal with the complications of re-jetting a carb on an early Sanger due to your altitude variations, I don't see the 260hp base motor significantly underperforming vs the AS you have now. I bet it'd still hold 39-40 with a footer at altitude. Adding speed requires more HP (and $$) but I think you're going to be up against that wall regardless. Seipel and Scarpa were incredibly talented but they were both smaller guys with big flat feet. Like I said, form will only get you so far on footing slow (be it on one foot or 2)... At some point, physics based on weight and foot size take over! |

Simple for sure. Still, carbs are messy, gum up with ethanol and varnish, and unless you warm the engines over a bit, they're less powerful than EFI. I switched boats from a carb 351W to a fuel injected GT40. 70 more HP, and by rough estimates, about 20% less fuel consumption. I do have to say it helps to be mechanically inclined carb or fuel injected, but nothing beats fuel injection day after day for states power and economy. Once you debug any boat, reliability is really great. If you are handy enough to properly adjust a carb, you can handle EFI. |

I definitely want a ride at 65. I rode a waverunner at 70 and that was quite a rush! |

The 240hp carb'd 351w and your 310hp gt40 vary by more than the implementation of multiport EFI. There are head and cam differences as well- it would be more of an apples to apples comparison with the 285hp carb'd Proboss or the 300hp tbi injection motors, as both have the same gt40 heads as your GT40. There are certainly some power *potential* and efficiency advantages to EFI, but hp alone is not an absolute... And the differences in this case are relatively small (even if you believe the published ratings). Ability to maintain and ability to upgrade/tune are also very different things, worthy of an entirely different conversation! |

yup, Pete. I'm mixing apples and oranges and I know it. I went from an over-propped carb engine in a wet-foam DD Supra to an all glass V-drive in my personal comparison and that's apples and oranges too. I do think I save fuel though, and it's noticeable enough even my wife noticed it.
As an aside, while the market sucks eggs, cheap gas is going to help us all this summer! |

If you can only get 39 40....you whip the skier on a corner and he'll go faster and can pull off a one foot.
Barefooting with a less than adequate top speed is frustrating. My engine was 8500. I had paid 6500 for the boat with motor i blew up it ran 43 44 .Everything is new and updated to 2011 technology including fuel injection so altitude is not an issue. |

Now I get ya. I was thinking about skiing off the 5ft and was pretty confused. That motor swap was a good idea if you plan on keeping the boat. But I would rather get a better hull before like a 97 and up nautique or something before I put a double what my boat is worth in my boat. |

Don't worry about the value of the hull you can always take the engine with you. The less cash you're out on the fiberglass the better!

This is very true, even with the Bass Nautique, as it sits right now the whole package is worth about $7000. But no one would ever pay that unless they specifically wanted the worlds fastest Correct Craft. Otherwise, the motor is worth about $5000, the rigging is worth another $1000, trolling motor about $200 and the hull and trailer about $800. I realize it is a little more challenging to take an inboard motor with you, but it can be done. |
