Just sold the 541 lost out on shipping sold it to my buddy whose boat I ski on more than I do mine. He took his 4 blade in this winter to a prop shop to get the dings fixed and it used to run36mph @3700 rpm and he got it back and it ran it at almost 4000. Now with the 541 @ 36 he is about 3650 rpm. He is way happier

I think I could have gotten my shipping back If I sold it to the master craft guys. But I sold it to my buddy who I ski in his boat all the time so just sold it for the flat rate you sold it to me for. He loves the prop.

The highest price isn't always the best price. You did your friend right. Shipping charges are to be expected, just part of the game...

Just to set the record straight, I did get the top end I was looking for on my inboard (although there's always room for more) but along with a different prop, it was with the addition of of GT-40p heads, an Edlebrock intake, a Malory distributor/ignition that allowed for more advance. GPS barefoot speeds were just shy of 44. I sold the boat for a better wake and have this now.... My take on the problem at hand is that although a prop change may help, more HP is going to be the key in getting additional speed for your one-foots. |

Mark, I thought the day we were doing all the GPS runs was AFTER you had done all those mods and you still wanted the 1 to 2 MPH more! |

You're on to something there! A lighter load will almost certainly be the most cost efficient way to get the one-foot speeds you're looking for. No engine mods, no new props needed! |

You're right Pete, that was after the heads and intake. I think I was trying to dial in the timing advance when we were making those GPS runs. After that testing, I added the YLM distributor since I couldn't get enough total advance out of the original without altering the initial timing beyond where I could start the engine easily. As I recall, top speed was 48.7 mph and it would run 43.9 with me at the end of a rope. It was a strong runner and had a great slalom wake but the barefooting wake/table was the reason for a different boat. |

Ive got too many threads open I forget about which info is where. Thats what happens when your board at work I guess. But yes I got the new prop and tried it. I got 40 mph out of it in some rough water. Next day I put on the original dinged up brass 13x13 in about the same water conditions and got 41. In calm Water I was getting 42. That is all no footer. So now I wonder if a cnc 13x13 would be a good choice. It has got to be better than the old brass one. But Im kind of tired of spending money. I have got to get the new oj prop sold before I buy anything else.

Yeah I guess its a legend. It does not say on the prop. It just says 13x13 oj. I know its not cnc. Im guessing its the stock prop from 94. If they called them legend back then then i would guess thats it.

Ive got a question. So I narrowed down that the best prop for my boat is an old dented brass oj 13x13 for top speed. The last prop I tried was the OJ xmp 13x11. Would this mean the best for my boat could be a cnc 13x13? I tried the acme 541 and it was a bit slower. I know you cant compair different brands exactly but from the reviews I have seen cnc oj and acme are super close. I mean a cnc 13x13 has got to be better than a brass 13x13? Or am I stupid? Dont answer that.

I talked to eric again and he recommended the 11.5. Im kinda tired of screwing with this crap knowing that what ever I buy im still gonna need an outboard to get anything good.

Landis, I feel some transom reinforcement and a jack plate would be an option: Seriously, I understand you have a tough problem having to deal with the elevation. |

Eric from oj is really a great guy. He is going to send me the 13 x 11.5 free of charge for me to try. Im pretty sure that their xmp props are just as good as acme. I think both brands are both really good. Eric is great to work with. He has always been super helpfull over the phone. Its great the ski boat industry is always so helpful. Everybody from you guys to the manufactures are always looking to help out.
Oh except the local boat shops who have people answering their phones who know nothing about boats. And Also Ron from skiboatpartsonline is great too. He will explain whatever you need to know over the phone. You guys should really check out his site. |

I think you are chasing your tail changing props as much as you have.
You are working a 350 Chevy in 6,000 feet elevation. Rated for 260 HP you might be seeing 190 at best at 6,000 feet. To get the HP up you need compression. One way already suggested is to swap to Vortec Heads, they flow great and would bump compression but they would need a special manifold that might cost $250 more on top of the head cost. There are several companies that offer good after market heads that would bump your power. Dart offers cast iron heads with 64 cc chambers that would bump your compression and out flow the factory head while bolting on with your existing equipment. Should add 40 HP. Cost would be around $800 but that is only two props! AFR has some great heads also but much more money. A set of vortec heads could be had for 500 but would need the new manifold and push rods adding to the cost. I think the Dart heads run 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves which would help wake up your engine. A head change could be done in about 4 hours. At your altitude it would most likely run on regular fuel. At Seal Level it would need premium for sure. Below 2,500 RPM you might not feel much but above that they should pull much harder. |
