Hi folks,
Just put a reconditioned prop on my 2001 Super air. There is a noticeable vibration getting out of the hole around 3000rpm. There are no vibrations at revs when up on plane, or up to that point getting out of the hole. There were no vibrations with the previous prop. Could this be cavitation? Or is it most likely something to do the prop not being balanced properly. The new (reconned) prop was lap fitted as per CCF requirements! Old prop was the stock OJ, new is an Acme 644. Cheers, D. |

Is your cutlass bearing in good shape? I would think imbalance would get progressively worse with RPM. Who did the recondition? Did they have the correct pitch blocks,?

Darren,
When I first purchased my Tique, I swapped out an OJ for an Acme and had a real bad case of vibration through the complete RPM range. The prop was second hand so my first thought was the prop needed a tune up. However, the Acme went on a friends 70 Cuda and there wasn't any vibration. What I have found is certain hulls even the same model and year do set up some harmonics. There are many factors that contribute to vibration so I suggest running the Acme for some time and see if you still like the prop. Also, wait and see what others here has to contribute. |

Cheers for the replies fellas,
A local shop, in fact the only local shop anywhere near me, did the job. I have heard mixed reports about their work. Cutlass bearing I assume is ok - no play in it when I changed the props and I've never had any issues until now. Certainly strange as the vibration only happens out of the hole. Perhaps it is the hull/prop combo. I do know that this prop has been reworked on at least one occasion before. We'll see what others think, D. |
