I am in dire need of a favor. Can anyone that still has original lettering down the side of your boat please email me a picture? I need it taken directly from the side with the camera as close as possible to the height of the letters.
Im trying to re create the graphics as close as possible using ACAD so i can send to a graphics company. All of the images i see on the web, the boat is sitting at an angle or looking down on it, etc. If anyone can do this for me it would be much appreciated. Can send the image to d.burriss@att.net. Thanks in advance!! |

Damon,
It won't work. You will end up with a big "smiley" on the side. Not wanting to offend any members who have tried using a digital picture, PM me and I'll send you a diary link to show you the results. The problem with a picture, it's only 2 dimensions whereas the hull it 3 dimensional. What is needed is a tracing that can be scanned into the computer. Then a paint mask can be cut for painting the graphics. What year is your Tique? Welcome to CCfan. How about some pictures of the Tique? |

Boo to smiley faces, bring it down to a frown. Seriously though we've seen it done time and time again and it just looks goofy.

Damon,
If a graphics shop told you to supply them with the file developed from a digital picture, I highly recommend you find another shop that knows what they are talking about. |

Bruce, I think I know someone that can help and the reason I asked Damon the year. Damon, I neglected to ask if there are any remnants of graphics still on the hull. Also, in the reference misc. section, there's a file for the transom. |

Good info. it's a 74 model. Mustang. I may be committing a sin wanting to put ski tique graphics on it but I like them better sittin in the water. Besides the boat needs a lot of work and I wasn't planning on goin back original with interior etc. The boats been in the family since new and nobody else cares to do anything with it. I was gonna try and make it look more like a later tique with black windshield frame and black rub rail w rope etc. Maybe even a Bimini and swim platform. What are yalls thoughts? If I was told correctly the only difference in the mustang 16 and the tiques was that the mustang had a little more of a rounded nose. As soon as I figure how to attach pics using a phone I'll show you guys. Thanks for the replies

Damon,
Many here have the opinion that it should be kept as close to original as possible and I strongly encourage it. I'm noted on site for keeping originality and my signature line used to include "keep it original". It is however your boat so you can do what you want. |

The Mustang would be a "fancier" boat. It should have combing pads and most likely a bench seat where as the Tique would be a bare bones work horse ski trainer. Dash lay out would be different. Tiques didn't have black windshields until early 76 and rub rail probably wasn't rope until 78? What windshield is on your Mustang? Is your Mustang a 17' or 16'? I think in '74 they made both. Not too sure what the tracking fin scenario is underneath any of these models. I too am a "keep it original guy" but platforms get my vote all day long no matter what year boat (they came out in 77 or 78). A lot of maintenance but way practical if you're the type who doesn't have dock access and spend all day on the boat. I prefer the Ski Tique over the Mustang. In fact every time I've seeked a Correct Craft it was always going to be a Tique and end up buying a different model.... One day....

+1 ^ I was seeing the same thing on the signature! I also agree with trying to keep things original. But I don't always practice what I preach!

well i kinda agree but im torn because i do like the "cleaner" look of the tique. windsheild is aluminum that doesnt have the vents at the bottom. its a mustang 16. actually ive yet to find a picture of one with my exact graphic scheme. let me see if i can get pics up. im on my computer at work now.
currently i have the front of the motor off to replace water pump and gonna clean up and paint some things while i have pulleys etc off. i have ordered a impeller for the other pump and a dist tune up kit. is the water pump (one on front of block) and the fuel pump standard parts or can i get these at napa or did pcm have these parts made? arent these engines reverse rotation? didnt know if it would matter on these parts. i assume it would |

Ken and Bill, We all haven't been paying attention to signatures! I just noticed this morning my "keep it original" was missing. Maybe it was deleted way back when Keith updated the site?? So, a couple hours ago, I went in and added it again!! |

Damon, Who's marinization of the engine do you have? It may make a difference with the RWP (raw water pump). The circulation pump will be rotation specific but, they do make a bi-directional pump. Your engine from the factory would have been a RR (reverse rotation) |

I've had people chase me down a few miles to the gas station just to look at my 72 Mustang. You're gonna have Mustang emblems on the dash but yet put Ski Tique on the side of a boat that it's not? That would be like taking a Ford Pinto and throwing some Mustang Cobra emblems on it!
My 72! Here's a 73! These are two Mustangs owned by CCFans that just resonate COOL! |

Geez easy peasy guys. The hardest part is fixing holes from railing and emblem on dash and do something with gauge cluster. Not like trying to make a mid 90's sport look like an air.

Normally I wouldn't put in my 2 cents on this discussion, but the OP asked our opinions, and even tho I occasionally get on Pete's case for telling people what they should or shouldn't do with their boats, this time I am with him. Echoing what Hollywood said, when people rebrand their boats, it ends up looking goofy, Whether its putting "Ski Natique" mailbox letters on the side of a 66 mustang or air nautique logos on a 2001. Admittedly, this isn't quite as heinous as it is the same hull, for the most part, but still, nothing wrong with a mustang being a mustang. I'd leave it alone. Tim gave a couple of good examples why.
EDIT: Damon posted his pics while I was typing. Just supports what I was saying. Freshen up the existing graphics. Don't change it. Its a good looking classic boat. |

Fuel pump, distributor, starter, alternator are marine specific. Don't get them at auto parts store. Everything else is fair game ( unless your are getting into the innards of the engine where you run into RR differences)
Best sources for parts: http://www.n3boatworks.com/ http://www.skidim.com/ http://www.nautiqueparts.com/ http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/shop/index.php https://www.summitracing.com/ |
